Old family photographs can uncover unexpected resemblances across generations, especially when you discover a relative you never had the chance to meet. This was the case for one man who stumbled upon an old family photo and found himself staring back from the past—or so it seemed. While sorting through his family's photo archives, Reddit user u/fxryker came across a striking photo of his great-great-grandfather, Antonio Valls. The resemblance between the two men was so uncanny that he decided to post a side-by-side comparison online, sparking surprise at just how much two people separated by generations could look alike.

“My maternal great-great-grandfather at 22 (1900) and me at 22 (2020),” Ryker captioned the post, showing the two photos together. According to Newsweek, Ryker was taken aback by the likeness, saying, “As soon as I saw the old photo, I just thought, Wow, I look just like him.” The discovery led him to reflect on how, despite being four generations apart and sharing limited DNA, their resemblance was undeniable. The photos didn’t just reveal similarities, however—they also highlighted how much had changed across the generations in lifestyle, fashion, and the world around them.

"The two photos are evidence of how much has changed in time because we both have different hairstyles, mustaches and clothing and the composition of the photos is very different. Not to mention, I'm holding a smartphone in my photo," the man emphasized. The man also ended up receiving a wide variety of reactions from the internet. "Some people think I'm him reincarnated, while others think we look nothing alike. A few even threw around insults, but that's the internet for you," the 26-year-old told the outlet. People took to the comments section of the thread to point out various other things on the internet.

u/petrichorandpuddles commented, "My perception is probably poor, but what I get out of the two pictures is that the person and his great great grandfather’s similarities are mostly the positioning of their features. They have different noses, lips, mustaches, eyebrows, and hair. Yet, their forehead length, cheekbones, jawline, and nose length have definite similarities!" u/clumsychord wrote, "None of their features are similar except their eye shape, and even that is not identical. The forehead, eyebrows, nose, lips, mustache, cheeks, and chin are all totally different. They look related, but not identical."

u/tie-dye-me remarked, "I don't think you look that much alike. Maybe your eyes have some, but even that is changed because the shape of your face is very different. He has a thin nose also. Your nose isn't wide, but it's not thin like his. Your face is more square, your eyebrows have an arch, and your chin is pointed. His eyes are further apart than yours." u/Partigirl shared, "No, you do bear a resemblance to your grandfather. You're smiling more in your photo, so your lips appear different but they are the same. Your nose is a bit broader but considering the angles aren't the same in each photo and a few generations apart, I can still see your great-great-grandfather in your face. Very nice!"
