Thomas Dodd didn't realize he had changed his name until he received a letter stating so in the mail.
All Thomas Dodd can remember about Christmas Eve is drinking champagne and watching a TV concert by Céline Dion. The 30-year-old is a massive fan of the Canadian singer but little did he know that he'd changed his name from Thomas Dodd to Céline Dion via an online application when he was drunk. He would find out only a few days later when he received a letter confirming the change. It all rushed back to him. It all came rushing back to him but he isn't complaining and doesn't want to change it back to Thomas Dodd either, reported New York Post. Céline Dion also helped him get through the pandemic so far as he sat at home watching her concerts. On Christmas Eve, he had opened a magnum of Champagne gifted by a friend as he watched the 52-year-old Canadian singer's concert on TV. “That’ll probably explain a lot!” he said.
Tier 4 is the least of my worries - I’ve just got home to some post. Apparently at some point over Christmas I’ve had one too many vinos and legally changed my name to Celine Dion! pic.twitter.com/ZchXWiqhUw

At some point in the night, Dodd decided to change his name to Céline Dion and paid $122 to officially change his name via an online application. He doesn't remember much else and the memory is mostly fuzzy to him. “I honestly, hand on heart, don’t remember doing it. I remember watching the concert and remember getting rather tipsy.” Dodd, who works as a hospitality manager in Staffordshire, England, would learn of the name change only after a few days when he returned from work. His mail included a letter with the documentation for a name change. “I wasn’t aware I had done it until I found that envelope in my post,” said Dodd. It was a lot to take in for him and he called up his bank and they confirmed the same.

He sat on it for a while but loved the idea. “Once it sunk in, I signed it straight away as I bloody love her!” he said. Mr. Céline Dion took to Twitter to share the “change of name deed” and also updated his Twitter name “MR CELINE DION.” He's still not used to the name and he's certainly not getting used to the media attention. “Things have been pretty crazy over here since this morning,” said Mr. Dion after the story went viral on the internet. He even confirmed that paparazzi were camped outside his home. He also added that he was being sent a lot of messages from the singer's fans. "Celine Dion fans asking me to record them a video message!” He is a little concerned about his locality and wonders how they'll react to it. “I’ve just moved into a small village and haven’t spoken to many people. It’ll cause quite a stir when I tell them my new name,” said Mr. Dion. He is still not entirely sure if he wants to keep the name forever and said he would consider based on the obstacles he faces. “As it stands – I’m keeping it!” he said — though he added that everything “depends [on] how difficult it makes my life!”
However, his mother is not too pleased with the decision. “My mother wasn’t best pleased at first, but now she sees the funny side!” said Mr. Dion. It's not the first time he has done something crazy while drunk. “My friends have said they are not surprised! It was only a few week[s] back I hired an Elsa [from ‘Frozen’] tribute to perform on my driveway for me when I was drunk because I was bored! Anything is possible!” He is also hoping the name earns him a chance to speak to his favorite singer. “You might think I’m joking. I’ll need to be put on oxygen! Just thinking about [it] is making my heart race and my eyes water. It would honestly mean the world and more,” said Mr. Dion.
