Once, a man (u/hagbolder11) arrived at a bar unannounced to surprise his girlfriend. As soon as he entered, he saw her sitting next to a stranger, chitchatting. However, as soon as his girlfriend saw him, she turned to the guy beside her, only for him to leave the very next second. The man was confused, but he let it slide and didn't doubt his partner until he checked her phone. The story, shared on August 8, 2020, has received over 2,000 upvotes on Reddit.

A strange bar encounter

The man elaborated that he wasn’t a big drinker, but his ex-girlfriend was. She frequently hung out at a nearby bar with her close friends, while he preferred to stay at home. The other night, however, the man was bored, so he went to the bar where his ex-girlfriend was hanging out with her friends. As he walked inside, he saw her sitting with her friends and a stranger. "She had this strange look on her face. She turned to this guy sitting next to her, and he immediately got up and left," the author recalled.

The man felt something was off. After returning home, he checked one of his ex-girlfriend's friends' Facebook lists to find the guy he saw at the bar. "Sure enough, he was friends with one of my ex’s friends," the man said.

Cheater busted

The following weekend, she went out drinking again and didn't return home until 7 am. Once she returned, she marched straight into the shower. While his ex was in the shower, the man spied on her phone and found romantic messages from the same guy. Instead of starting an argument, he changed into fresh clothes and moved to his best friend’s house. Twenty minutes later, his girlfriend called him to lash out at him for leaving. "I laughed at the projection and told her that if she wasn’t moved out by Monday, the police would be there to force her out," the man said.

Infidelity hurts

Infidelity occurs more in non-marital relationships, according to research by Krystian Wdowiak and others. While the man handled the situation well, most fall into the vicious cycle of anger, uncertainty, rage, shame, guilt, jealousy, and sadness after facing cheating in a relationship. Similarly, another study confirmed that between 10% and 17% of women cheat in a relationship, making this case one in many. Meanwhile, the study found that men are more likely to practice infidelity, with rates generally ranging between 20% and 25%

Meanwhile, Reddit readers appreciated how the man handled such a difficult situation without even raising his voice. For example, u/Tommysrx commented, “Take a video of the place before you leave; it will be proof if she trashes the place.” Similarly, u/ballweird4954 said, “For a lot of guys I imagine that's a better alternative than staying there with your rage so fresh.” u/gemscottage added, “Liked your decisiveness, not many can do that.”
