It’s in our little actions and thoughts that we get the opportunity to hold those who are long gone in our hearts. A mom named Michaela Fuller (@fullsendkayla) did just that through the most precious surprise. In a post shared on February 3, the mom, who just gave birth to her second child, had the joy of sharing her child's name with her dad. As the man walked into the room to see the baby for the first time, he had already fallen in love.

Seconds later, Fuller asked him to check out his name, and there, printed on a blanket, the grandpa saw a name that immediately took him back down memory lane. He broke down in tears on realizing who Fuller had named her son after.

@fullsendkayla Thank you all for the kind words and blessings🩵 for all of you asking, here is the origonal without the audio, Sorry for all my sniffles. He was named Wesley after my uncle and my grandfather💕 #withoutmusic #namesake #blessed ♬ original sound - Michaela Fuller

The grandparents walked into the room with their granddaughter, Fuller’s first child, and immediately laid eyes on the little boy in the bassinet. The grandpa showed him to his sister and said, “That’s your little brother.” After putting her down, he took a good look, full of love, at the little boy. That’s when Fuller asked him to see the name. As the grandpa took a closer look, he spotted a colorful blanket folded and kept beside the baby. As soon as he read the name on it, tears rolled down his face. He was in disbelief but at the same time also felt fulfilled, as if a full-circle moment had been completed.

The boy was named “Wesley,” after his grandpa’s late brother and dad. In a previous video, Fuller mentioned that they waited for 9 years before they had a baby boy in the family, and there was no doubt about what his name was going to be. After casting a glance of gratitude towards his daughter, the grand-dad went back to the bassinet, affectionately reading the name over and over again — an identity now passed on to a new generation, a way to see his late brother and dad live on. “Hi, Wesley,” he said with tears.

An expert, Bob, who has been studying genealogy for 40 years, revealed that it is a common practice to name children after their ancestors out of honor across countries. This practice came from the 17th and 18th centuries, where royals and higher-ups would often continue the family legacy. It was revealed that in Prince George’s County, Maryland, in the 17th century, 80% of the eldest sons were named after the paternal grandfather, while the second sons were named after the father. The same applied to daughters.

A survey from Babycenter, shared by KTVU, of 450 moms who had a baby, found that 23% chose a name based on their ancestors to honor them. That’s 1 in 4 moms choosing tradition over trends and other preferences. This claimed the highest percentage, followed by picking names from an app, book, or list (15%). 12% said they chose a name based on a place or region, while 11% credited pop culture. Not a dry eye was left on the internet. @dddd.tj2 said, “Sobbing at his shaky voice.” @mindaykay42 added, “You can just tell he’s a great dad and grandpa. What a beautiful tribute.”
