A man (u/outrageousspread8706) was living under the illusion of a happily ever after until he discovered his wife's secret affair after almost a decade of their marriage. One fine day, as he returned home from work, he found his wife on a call with somebody. Apparently, she was planning to meet the person on the other end, but as she saw her husband, she immediately hung up. Suspicious, the man checked his wife's phone and realized she'd been cheating on him with a younger guy. The affair itself shattered him, but what broke him more was discovering that his wife used him to justify her infidelity. The author shared the latest update on August 16, 2026. 

His wife's secret lover

The author was quite content with his married life. While he worked 5 days a week, his wife, a stay-at-home mom, took care of their kids. Even though the couple used to fight sometimes, it was never serious. However, their relationship changed when he overheard her talking to someone. His wife was planning to meet a guy the coming weekend. But when she heard the author enter the room, she abruptly dropped the call.

Moreover, when the man confronted his wife, she lied about talking to a friend. At first, he believed her, but the way she ended the call bothered him. The following day, he called her from work and asked her where she was. She said she was at home, but he could hear noises in the background. The man had a gut feeling she was cheating and drove back home to confirm her doubts. As expected, his wife was not home. Later that night, the author checked his wife's phone and found intimate conversations with her lover. "To be honest, I have no idea what to do right now. I will definitely divorce her. My biggest problem is...I have a feeling if we divorce, she will go back to her country with the kids. I can't allow that," the man wrote. 

He had the last word

Two days after his first post, the man returned with an update. He did not want to confront his wife right away. So, he contacted his lawyers and got everything sorted out. "I agreed with him that we make a deal for her. She can keep the house and car, but I will be the primary custody parent. Or I keep the house, and I will pay for the place where she can live, and we share the custody," the author recalled. Later, he transferred a significant amount from their joint account to his and confronted his wife. "My lawyer will contact you about the kids immediately when you leave my house. P.S. You look good in those nude pictures you sent to AP," the man texted his cheating wife. 

The ultimate plot twist

The author then called his wife's lover and asked him to meet. The other man agreed, and during their meeting, the author discovered the cheating was just the tip of the iceberg. When his wife met her lover, he was not that interested in her. However, she convinced him that her husband had cheated on her, so she wanted revenge. "He was apologizing like crazy and said if he knew that she was happily married, he wouldn't do anything," the author recalled.  As it turned out, her wife had lied to both men. While they were talking, she sent her lover several messages and voice notes, accusing him of destroying her life. Surprisingly, the lover even gave the author evidence that would help with the divorce. Two years later, the author shared that his divorce is closer to being finalized. Meanwhile, he confessed that he has found love again. 

Why do people cheat?

There are several reasons why people cheat on their partners. In fact, a 2023 Spokeo survey found the most common reason (22.1%) people cheat is because they like the attention. The author's wife openly admitted to it. She said she felt good that the younger guy gave her attention over his other single friends, and that he chose someone 9 years older than him. Moreover, the author's estranged wife also admitted in her voice note, "Because I am an idiot and liked the attention and lost control and now I lost everything." Besides attention, the second most common reason (20.4%) someone cheated on their partner was because they suspected their partner of cheating. While it's not true in the author's case, the wife used it as an excuse to cheat on him.
