The man shared how he was forced to get back at his friends who would always give some excuse for not paying for what they ordered.
Many friend groups struggle with splitting bills and ensuring people are not paying drastically more than their fair share. In a similar story, 27-year-old Reddit user u/Additional-Wasabi357 shared how he got back at his friends who were benefitting from the bill-splitting system. The man took to the social media platform to ask whether what he'd done was right.
The man shared that he has known a group of eight people since college. "For some background, two people from the group, Susan and Greg, are just absolute leeches. Going out for lunch? Expect them to order the most expensive on the menu, then feed you some sob story about their finances and then dump half the bill on you," the man explained. One weekend, one of his friends, Dan invited him out for dinner with the group. "I told him how if Susan or Greg were there, I wouldn't be able to come. He tells me that they would be there, but I should just put my opinions aside and come just once." The man eventually agreed to go and the friends were just talking as he got there.
About six people, including the man, had come out that day and put in their orders. Most of them ordered items worth about 40 Australian dollars (around $26) per person. "When it gets to Susan and Greg, they both order expensive dishes, around $200. When it was my turn to order, everyone looked at me, but I just picked up the menu and pointed to the $4 Miller Lite and sent the waiter away," the person shared. His friend Dan wondered why he didn't want order food. "All I said was that I lost my appetite. The other two friends got up as well to cancel their orders and just have drinks," he added. "After the main courses came out, I saw Susan and Greg picking at their food. The waiter then brings over the check."
"Greg then grabs the waiter and asks him to split the check six ways," the man continued. "I stand up and correct him, saying the check was to be split three ways. Greg looks at me confused and asks why since we 'always' split the bill." The person pointed out that the three of them hadn't had any food. Hence, he would only pay for the drinks. "So basically, at the end of the night, Dan, who probably only ate around $50 ($33) worth of food, was stuck with a $146.98 ($96.25) check. I swear I saw his jaw drop when he picked that receipt up," the post revealed. The man bid goodbye to everyone after leaving a $10 ($6.56) bill on the table and walked out.
The next morning, his phone was full of texts from Greg and Susan, calling him names for not ordering food and forcing them to pay more than they had accounted for. "I honestly laughed because the steaks alone were more than what they had paid but to each their own right?" He stated, "I also got a lot of messages from Dan saying that I could have just not come instead of pulling that stunt and getting him stuck with an outrageous bill." People took to the comments to support the man.

The best solution is to stop going out with moochers and their enablers." u/AreteQueenofAres shared, "I knew a guy who ordered soup because he had jaw issues, but all his friends ordered steaks and whiskey -- and then wanted to split the bill evenly. So he grabbed the waiter and ordered a steak, a couple of apps, and a dessert to go, just add it to the bill. All of a sudden, they split it evenly, bros didn't look so happy." u/DctrBanner commented, "The other two that canceled their food orders 100% knew what he was doing and decided to follow suit. Strangely, the leeches keep getting invited out at all."
