After catching his girlfriend red-handed, this man waited three years to expose her at the altar

There is a unique kind of arrogance in people who betray someone, completely vanish, and then resurface years later, expecting a clean slate. They act as though their wrongdoing had an expiration date, assuming that because they have moved on, you should be ready to forgive and forget. Three years after discovering his cousin and girlfriend cheating, this was exactly what they expected from a man (u/RandomNameNumber3) when they asked him to be the best man at their wedding. Although this man agreed to the request, he did so with malice, detailing the entire story on Reddit, which was later re-shared by u/Shelly_895 on July 6, 2026.
I purposefully ruined my cousin and ex's wedding and it's brought me a lot of happiness (New update 4 years later)

It all started with the man returning home early from work one day, hoping to get some time off, only to find his then-girlfriend in bed with his cousin, whom he loved and looked up to as a brother. Stunned and heartbroken by this, he immediately told both of them to move out of his house by the time he got back home, and left the house. Naturally, they were gone by the time this man reached back home again, but his girlfriend left a note asking him to call back once he "calmed" down. Regardless, he never did; he rather texted her to shift her belongings to his cousin's house.

Within a week, the man packed up all of his girlfriend's things and delivered them to his cousin's house, refusing to engage in a conversation with either of them despite their repeated apologies. After this, he went completely no-contact with them for three long years, while keeping this entire incident a secret from his family. "I didn't bring it up to the rest of my family or any of their friends; I'm not sure why. I just didn't," he wrote. Nonetheless, this no-contact was shattered one day when he got a call from an unknown number.
On the other end of this call was his cousin. He sounded rather happy, like he hadn't done anything wrong, as he then broke the news to this man that he and his ex-girlfriend were getting married. However, this wasn't even the most shocking part, as he then requested this man be his best man for the wedding. Naturally, the man yelled at him and hung up the call. He then received a text from his cousin stating that, "If I didn't want to be his best man, then he just simply wouldn't have one." This prompted him to comply maliciously.

After much deliberation, the man accepted the role, lying about how he wanted to reconcile with them. Upon hearing this, his cousin got excited, so much so that he refused to let him spend a dime, paying for everything from his travel to getting him a new suit for the wedding. However, what he didn't know was that the man was preparing to expose him and his bride-to-be during the toast. Eventually, the wedding day came, and everything was going great until the time for speeches came around.
With both families around, the man was handed the mic as everyone hoped for a heartfelt speech from the best man. However, instead they got to hear about the terrible things they did to him. "I explained what these two horrible people had done to me," the man stated. He then wished them the worst and walked out of the wedding. Although he was expecting some dramatic moment from the guests then and there, he got nothing but silence. But the fallout did come on his way back home, as his mother accused him of ruining his cousin's wedding.

Apart from his mother, the man received several calls from his various relatives who defended the couple and accused him of spoiling their special day. However, he didn't waver even one bit and stood his ground, and a few people did understand his position. Nonetheless, after this, the man went no contact again with his cousin but got enrolled in therapy by his cousin. Years later, he revealed that his cousin ended up cheating on his ex-girlfriend, leaving her alone. But that didn't bother him much, as he had moved on in his life.
This man did the right thing by enrolling himself in therapy following this incident, because betrayal by a romantic partner can take a toll on someone. In fact, according to research posted on the National Library of Medicine, about 30 to 60% of individuals wronged by their partners experience symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). So, there's a significant chance that this man would've also been experiencing such symptoms. Thankfully, he was able to recover from this, as he now continues his hunt for a new partner.

Nonetheless, people in the comments of this post were stunned to see the cousin expecting this man to forgive him. u/Lizardgirl25 wrote, "Some people are that insane, thinking a family member will forgive them." At the same time, u/t01nfin1ty4ndb3y0nd commented, "Depression is a lifelong struggle. Being able to move on is a blessing itself. Looks like he’s living a normal everyday life free of drama, may not be perfect, but that’s life, I guess."
