The dad shared various things millennial dads are doing differently compared to the other generations and it resonates with many people.
As times change, what it means to be a parent and traditional gender roles usually change. Millennial dads likely experienced the biggest shift in their roles as fathers compared to the previous generations. A dad, Bret Green—who goes by @dadgotbars on TikTok—posted an anthem to highlight these efforts of the next generation of fathers. Through the music video "Millennial Dad," he highlighted how the meaning of being a dad is changing rapidly today. It has resonated with many people on the internet.
"Millenial dad, you need a pat on the back," the rap begins. "Cause we are holding their hands and raising them up like no generation of dads ever has." He continued, "Dead beat dad, never that. If I leave, then I am coming back." The dad went on, "Always by my baby's side, she's my bite-sized KitKat." He highlighted how the gender roles were getting blurry and harder to decipher. The dad couldn't believe there was a time when a man wouldn't change a diaper. "I am just so damn proud of these dads. Can I get your autograph?" Green rapped as several dads danced with their kids in the video. "Right there on that starter cap, right where it says world's number one dad," he expressed.
He pointed out how moms doing all the work and putting themselves before their kids was an old-fashioned thing now. "First steps, first words, we celebrated and our skin looks good, we exfoliated," the dad remarked. "If nobody says it, I am proud of you," Green said, sending a message to his fellow dads. "You are doing the things he couldn't do. A grown man who used to yell at you or that coward that you never knew," he remarked. "All the boy dads are just trying to make a man out of a little boy. All the girl dads showing the baby girl what boys to avoid," the man sang.
"But it's 25 times 4 with my kids 7 days a week. That's what I call child support," Green shared. The video received over 643k views and more than 75k likes. People took to the comments to support the dad's message. @jenniferfranzn wrote, "I'm so excited to see the outcome of Gen Alpha having millennial parents. So many daily moments with my kid make me feel like, 'This is how it should've been done.' My inner kid is healing." @rubyragecreations commented, "Just sent this to my husband. He is a stay-at-home dad and people always ask him why he 'lets' or 'makes' me work. It's a choice and a privilege."
@such_a_hippie_91 remarked, "My husband is a millennial dad and he's bossing it! He's such a great dad and partner in crime. He's healing my inner child by being the best dad to our daughter #girldad." In one of the comments, the dad mentioned, "I should preface this by saying women have been great mothers since the beginning of time. Men are just now catching up. I guess we praise modern fathers for finally doing what moms have done forever." @christianrodrig8102 shared, "Love this. I need the whole video, please. Also, I'm proud of this generation of dads; we are helping fix our world from the inside, from the foundation, little by little, and it's beginning to show."
