A regular marathon run became considerably more fun when a man cheered for every participant named 'John' with a handmade sign.
Who would not love to have their family and friends cheering for them when they accomplish something big? It matters a lot for an individual when there is someone to hype them up and boost their confidence, especially when they are participating in any event. Unfortunately, not everyone is lucky enough to always have their cheerleaders on the sidelines. Here is where Blake Hudson comes in. Hudson–who goes by @bharrishudson on TikTok–won over the internet with a hilarious video where he lit up the faces of marathon runners.
Hudson decided to make a cut-out sign of a random name and take it to the sidelines of a marathon to cheer participants who were passing by. He picked one of the most common names for men, "John." After creating the name cut-out, painting it blue and attaching it to a handle, Hudson and a bunch of his friends went to cheer for all the people named John who passed by them in the marathon. Hudson tracked the runners through an app on the smartphone and figured out all the Johns who would pass by their unofficial cheering squad.
At first, an older man jogged by them as the small crowd holding "John" banners shouted his name and cheered for him wholeheartedly. The marathon runner spotted the people cheering for him and he waved back at them. Another man named John jogged by and embraced the love from the crowd while pumping his fists in the air. Then, a young man wearing glasses and a white t-shirt came in running and gave the cheering crowd a double thumbs up with a smile.
Two more men named John were captured in the clip and they smiled and continued on their mission to reach the marathon's finishing line. For people wondering whether the effort Hudson put into making the cut-outs and cheering for all the "John" in the marathon was worth it, he made a second video to answer that question. In the follow-up video, we can see Hudson staying up late at 2 a.m. to make the cut-outs for the marathon. Initially, he also wondered if doing what he had planned was meaningless. It turns out, it wasn't. "I think it was worth it for all of the Johns of the world," Blake wrote in the caption of his second video.

@jenn.27_ commented, "I feel like they should make an 'adopt a runner' thing on marathon websites where spectators can pick someone to cheer for and if someone gets adopted, they email them to let them know what mile marker." @johnbmccabe quipped, "This was one of my favorite moments of the marathon!!! Thank you!!!" @aysheaell joked, "I’m gutted that this will never happen to me because I have an unusual name. And will never run a marathon." @michaeladurango6512 shared, "This was the first video I saw on my page today. My dad is scheduled for heart surgery today. His name is John." @jennjamms added, "I’ve cried over the New York marathon more times this morning than I’ve ever even thought about it in my entire life until now."
