Though the pie was nothing like the man expected, it sure left people online laughing.
Trying new recipes can sometimes lead to hilarious outcomes, and that’s exactly what happened to Reddit user u/SirSalmoncat. He shared a video of his first pie-baking attempt, humorously captioned, "I tried to bake my first pie...inadvertently created a portal into the underworld."
The video revealed a charred, bubbling pie that looked more like a science experiment gone wrong. SirSalmoncat told Newsweek that he had successfully baked bread before and wanted to try something new. Being a fan of blueberries and cherries, he decided to make a mixed berry pie from scratch. Confident it would be easy, he followed the recipe, placing the pie in the oven for 90 minutes at 350°F. Although the pie didn’t turn out as expected, he shared the recipe link with followers, adding to the humor of the situation.
The recipe called for just three ingredients: Frozen pie crust, 5 cups of frozen blueberries, and a 21oz can of sweet cherry filling. He wrote, "If the frozen pie crust comes in a two-pack, then use one as a shield or makeshift helmet." "Arm yourself with a wooden cudgel for stirring, and as a weapon against any demons and spirits that may emerge during the incantation," he added. He then asked people to cook the blueberries on high heat for five minutes while stirring intermittently and later to add cherries to it. Then the recipe instructed to pour the mix into the frozen pie crust and leave it to bake for 1.5 hours in a round "steel shield borrowed from the town militia."
He then said, "After one hour of baking, the mixture will enlarge with unusual activity like hands pawing delicately from behind velvet curtain. This is caused by unfortunate souls attempting to headbutt through the incomplete portal into your realm." Once it carmelizes and boils like molten lava, he asked to put it in the fridge for hours and to "deconstruct the gateway one piece at a time." He concluded by writing, "Consider wearing earplugs overnight to silence the murmurs and whispers that emerge from the void. For multiple pies, hire a part-time man-at-arms or a wizard apprentice to stand guard until the links to the underworld have calmed."
People found the caption hilarious. u/lily_dabunny commented, "May I steal this recipe for later? Me and my friend have plans to bring back the dark lord, but we have no idea how to do the ritual without leaving the comfort of our homes or raising suspicion!" u/lustygazee wrote, "When they said baking was a ‘helluva’ job, I didn’t think they meant it literally! lol.. Any tips on how to close a portal? My oven’s been acting strange lately!" u/cancat918 joked, "Eureka! Quick throw that ring in and run as if every Orc in Middle Earth was about to attack us from all directions... oh no, Mister Frodo, they are! Frodo: well, this sucks." u/mysterious_Ad_8827 said, "I will be brutally honest. As I was scrolling and this image went up the screen I literally thought it was a space rock. lol."
The man told Newsweek that he was horrified to see the pie when he took it out from the oven. "I expected the mixture to fill two pie deep dish crusts, so I was baffled that it all fit into one. This, apparently, was necessary to allow for two consistencies. "The contrasting consistency of goo and caramelized top complimented each other well, but it had barely enough sugar to caramelize without burning," he shared. However, he clarified that the pie wasn't burned and just carmelized. He said that he kept in the fridge for a while and then it had a "delightfully tart" consistency. He added that it tasted delicious and he even tried it for the second time.
