He expressed how he would never fall asleep next to someone and finds it unreasonable for others to expect it.
It's common for couples to fall asleep together after a long day, but it's also not unusual for some people to prefer their own private space. In fact, for some, sharing a bed can feel more like a challenge than a comfort. Daniel Rhodes, 25, who goes by @_danielrhodess on TikTok, took to the platform to share his opinion, calling the idea of sharing a bed with someone "bats**t insane."
"I have to lie next to someone like a plank of wood and have no room for the rest of my life just because I'm in a relationship or married?" he asked in disbelief in a video. "You are telling me we are expecting to share a bed with somebody just cause we love them? I am not doing that, no," he said. He then discussed the various positions he sleeps in and why he refuses to share a bed. "What if the bed gets hot, where do you think I am going? That side", he said, pointing to the other side of his empty bed. "That's what that side is for," he added. "I also like to starfish," he said, demonstrating his sleeping position. He then claimed it's "extremely needy" for someone to want to sleep next to their partner.
He then questioned the need to fall asleep beside your loved one, pointing out that people are unconscious when they sleep. "Why do you need to be uncomfortable just because you're in a relationship?" he asked. "It's so dumb, it's the most dumb thing I’ve ever heard, I refuse to partake." While one might expect disagreement, given that sharing a bed is the norm for many couples, many people voiced their support, sharing how they too value personal space. "I dream of separate WINGS of the house. Like royalty had for centuries," wrote @whatsghood. "I pay a crapload of mortgage. I’m getting my own room," expressed @pearlly86. "Babe come to Germany and you’ll see that people have separate mattresses and even bedrooms altogether," added @missunderstoodninja. A comment by @newzealand.american.girl read, "My husband and I sleep in separate rooms! We love it. Been married 25 years and started the separate room thing a couple of years ago. It is awesome. We sleep better."
Some also said how they loved sleeping with their partner and wouldn't have it any other way, "I have my partner AND my dog next to me. Feels empty without them," wrote @freedom.pa. "There’s nothing better than sleeping next to the person you love," expressed @tashpr0c. Others seemed to really think that having separate bedrooms could be the secret to a happy and successful marriage. "My parents have had separate beds their whole relationship. So sick of hearing this means their relationship is unhappy or going to end! Them getting good sleep keeps us all sane," wrote @amykvictoria.
