Mom films 7-year-old giggling with her boyfriend. She had no idea they were secretly planning a proposal for her

Marrying someone who is a parent requires accepting their kids as well. For Alexa Brennan’s fiancé, Trevor, it meant welcoming her daughters, 7-year-old Zoey and 4-year-old Brady, reported PEOPLE. And he was beyond keen to make her daughters his own. So when he was ready to pop the question to Alexa, he decided first to approach the oldest daughter and see what she thought.

In a clip shared by the Arizona mom on her TikTok page, she revealed how Trevor decided to check with Zoey, and her wholesome reaction proves she was in immediately. The duo then kept the secret until it was time to propose. 

The couple had an anniversary celebration planned in North Sedona, and before they could leave, they dropped off the daughters at Alexa’s parents’ home. “As we were loading up and saying our goodbyes, I saw my daughter and Trevor talking, and she was giggling and had tears in her eyes,” the mom recalled.

Curious to figure out what made her little girl so delighted and excited, she called her over to ask what they had been discussing. She began recording, and all she could capture was Zoey's widest smile. When the mom asked what they had talked about, the 7-year-old eagerly said it was a “secret” and that she couldn’t tell. 

“He told me he had a secret and if I tell, he won't do it,” she told her mom. Alexa already got a whiff of what the secret might be, but played along; it was a moment too precious to disrupt. “Is mommy going to like the secret?” she asked. But Zoey could just nod and smile from ear to ear. The clip switched to the little girl on FaceTime with her mom after Trevor proposed to her.

In another video shared on December 22, 2025, he popped the question against a warm, scenic backdrop during their trip. And of course, she said yes. She showed her ring to the little girls via FaceTime, and they couldn’t be happier. 

“We've talked as a family before about getting married, and he's asked my two daughters if he can 'marry mommy.' So I knew it was coming!” Alexa recounted. She also explained that Trevor didn’t want to risk revealing the surprise, so he didn’t tell the 4-year-old. However, she wasn’t left out of the picture.

The mom mentioned that from “day 1,” he was invested in both the girls, and that, from seeking their permission to “proposing” to them, he ensured they were as comfortable and ready as Alexa. "I was so happy he included my daughters in the proposal," she remarked. According to Statista, the number of single moms has increased drastically in the U.S. since 1990. As of 2024, there were 15,720 families with a single mom.

Findings from the Single Parent Project revealed 86% of single-parent families are led by single moms in the U.S., and 19 million children are living with a single parent. And life is hard for them. To take on the physical, mental, financial, and emotional burdens all on their single shoulders. ⅓ single mothers spend over half of their income on housing. In some states, childcare is over ½ of their annual income.

And no one can imagine the challenges Alexa faced, like those other single parents faced, before Trevor came along. The mom can’t wait for their wedding day and to include her girls in every preparation that woos a girl’s heart. @nicolegw wrote, “She wanted to keep the surprise but also wanted to tell you so badly.” @3746_um added, “I’m so glad she kept the secret and didn’t tell. She’s the sweetest.”
