For Rebecca, he wrote about how a 'great big hug' makes for the 'best present you can give another.'

Kids' obsession with Santa has to be the most adorable habit on planet Earth. A little girl, like many, wrote a letter to Santa and asked her family to send it to him. Her family played along and sent the letter to the United States Postal Service (USPS). A few days later, the postman returned the letter to the family because delivering it to Santa Claus, that too, in the North Pole, sounds like a 'Mission Impossible' situation. Heartbroken, the family (u/tucosupreme) posted a picture of their daughter's letter on Reddit on December 25, but it was one postman's reply that caught people's attention.

While kids indulge in writing heartwarming letters to Santa, this mailman waits for them at the office. Once they receive those "generic but very fancy-looking" letters, they channel their inner Santa Claus and reply to each one of them. In 2025, the mailman said, they gave out 24 Christmas letters addressed to Santa. To make it look more real, they seal the letters with a North Pole stamp. The mailman attached pictures of a few Christmas letters they got this year. Just as Santa, they start their letter with a classic "Oh, oh, ho" while encouraging kids to always practice kindness. "I hope you remember that saying 'I love you' with a great big hug can be the best present you can give one another," they wrote while replying to a child named Rebecca.
Santa Claus is a very important part of the Christmas spirit; in fact, a 2025 survey by YouGov found that over 50% of respondents (parents with kids under the age of 18) said their kids hang up a stocking for Santa to fill, and also leave out cookies and milk for him. Likewise, writing letters to Santa is also a very common practice in many households ahead of the holiday season. Highlighting it, the same survey found that nearly half (44%) of parents with young kids happily let their children write letters to Santa Claus. Now, thanks to the mailman in the story, and people like them who don't let down these innocent kids by wasting their letters.
Meanwhile, reacting to the mailman's generosity, u/icantbcereus commented, "Thank you. Growing up, my post lady always responded to my letters on special Christmas paper. It was amazing!" Similarly, u/ki0dz shared, "My small town's post office has a special mailbox for Santa, and one of the postal workers answers all the letters." u/upset_ad_5621 wrote, "I am SO glad to see this — when my dad was a postal carrier, he took up the job of doing it because his office didn’t bother to send them out to wherever they had to for responses. I jumped onto the team, and together, we answered dozens of letters each year from every route in his office. I have a binder of the letters Santa received, broken down by year. It’s one of my most treasured possessions."

u/marandysavage wrote, "We usually take a letter to our local USPS for Santa with my nephew. They set up a North Pole mailbox each year. He really loved getting a candy cane from the North Pole with Santa’s response. Thanks for what you do!" u/havanale commented, "I know I’m late at seeing this, and other people have already expressed their gratitude, but I want to also thank you. My kids were giddy when they got responses, and I’m sure it makes a whole bunch of kids’ days. Thank you."
