Macaulay Culkin's kids have no idea he’s Kevin from 'Home Alone' but they are starting to get suspicious

The 3 and 4-year-olds are just glad to sit and watch the Christmas movie with their dad, but a few signs are visible.

Most of our Christmases don’t pass without watching the “Home Alone" franchise. Starring the sweetest Macaulay Culkin, the plot of the little boy being left alone on Christmas and then ingeniously fighting off the bad guys while maintaining his mischievous innocence has had us in awe for years now. People still have the same love for Culkin, who is now an adult, a husband, and a father. We still see that smile and innocence, but for his children, Dakota and Carson, they’re not so sure about their dad’s precious identity, according to PEOPLE. The toddlers might figure it out, though, because a few signs are very visible.

The 1990 film is celebrating its 35th anniversary, and the fandom is going strong for all the right reasons. Appearing on the Mythical Kitchen, however, Culkin revealed that his sons didn’t know that their beloved dad was “Kevin” from the movie. He mentioned that they do love watching the movie, especially around the holiday time. They even watch it with their dad, and for the actor, it’s a totally different experience altogether. Yet, they haven’t quite seen the resemblance. “They have no idea that I’m Kevin. They’re only three and four years old,” he remarked.

He noted how when he puts on “The Suite Life,” featuring his wife, Brenda Song, the boys immediately know and recognize her. “They’re like, 'That’s mama,'” Culkin recalled. However, when Home Alone is playing, and they see Kevin throughout, they still refer to him as Kevin. And so Culkin doesn’t push the facts on them. As much as he’d love to know their reactions and for them to find out, he is willing to “keep up that illusion as long as possible.” But the truth can’t be hidden for long, especially when the actor still has that sweet smile and eyes. He recounted that when his son asked him to see a picture of him and his siblings, the boy started to get suspicious.

“He looked at the picture and darted his eyes at me and said, ‘Hey, that kid looks like Kevin.’ And I go, ‘He does, doesn’t he?’” the actor said. He’s patiently waiting for them to put the facts together, but in the meantime, being able to watch his younger self with his kids has been like a cloud nine feeling. “It takes on a completely different meaning that I have kids and I can show it to them and sit with them. And I see the joy it brings them and stuff, and it’s different for me,” he said. At the time, it felt like it was one of his works, or a “gig,” but now, seeing the joy it brings as a dad, the movie is something he can sit and be proud of.

Overall, Culkin was grateful for how far his work had come. To see parents bring their kids to the movie they once watched feels like a nostalgic hug. And it’s one of the best feelings to witness in a career. What screams success more than the fact that your work is being passed down as legendary to future generations? @akaalfie said, “The way we all love Macaulay Culkin all these years later is just fascinating to me.” @kiergaines added, “Damn, going from gig to a mantle of pride. I’ve never thought about it that way before.”
