Two incidents — one violent, one compassionate — highlighted sharply different sides of the public.

During a recent livestream in France, Twitch streamer Yoo Yoon-jin, better known as Jinnytty, was punched by a man while broadcasting in public. The unprovoked attack, which was caught live on her IRL Twitch stream and later shared on TikTok to her page @jinnytty0728, drew widespread attention. But what followed next was a surprising and heartfelt response from the local community. In the clip, Jinnytty was seen calmly walking and discussing a game when a man on a scooter suddenly turned around, approached her, and struck her camera.

"What was that?" she exclaimed, stunned, as the screen tilted. "He's mad!" she added, still visibly confused as she tried to understand the man’s aggression. "I wasn't pointing it at him, just showing him, and he just went behind the camera," she added. At first, she didn't understand what he'd said, but her live audience later told her that he'd insulted her and told her "to get out of here." "That's so weird," she said. The following day, Jinnytty posted another video showing a very different encounter. While streaming again, she was stopped by a motorcyclist who had followed her down the road. He called out to her and then, through his phone, delivered a message, "On behalf of all French people, we apologize for yesterday's attack." Jinnytty thanked him with a smile and reassured him that she held no ill feelings. "It's okay. I love France. It's just the one person," she said.

The apology video, also shared on her TikTok, included the caption, "Thank you so much, people of France, for your incredible support and kind words!" There were also other clips posted to her Twitch account, where she continued streaming and receiving in-person apologies from several locals. In one of those streams, a man who had recognized her from the footage approached and expressed his regret about what happened. The two incidents, one violent, one compassionate, highlighted sharply different sides of public response. Such gestures of apology and support are especially important when considering the broader impact of harassment on visitors.

A study titled Tourist Harassment and Its Impact on Tourism Experience, based on a survey of 500 international tourists in Istanbul, found that acts of hostility, even isolated, can shape perceptions of an entire country unless met with positive local engagement. It showed that tourists who experienced harassment were significantly less likely to recommend or revisit the destination, emphasizing how critical community response is in shaping long-term impressions. Jinnytty has not issued any further statements but continued streaming, receiving steady support from her international audience.

The posts reached a lot of people online, and many French residents expressed remorse over what had happened. @mehdi.narcisse wrote, "We are truly sorry for the bad behavior of the guy you met. He doesn’t represent France and the French people." @uang478 said, "Jinnytty, we Martinicans invite you to our beautiful island of Martinique. You will be well received. We love all the people of the world." @howardcarter02 added, "It hurt me so much what happened to you. I hope it won't stop you from coming back to our beautiful country." @veracruz64000 commented, "We are sorry. I promise not all French people are like your attacker. I hope this attack will not disgust you with our country." @mickaeldidi said, "Sorry for what you went through. You are a kind person with a big heart. The person who attacked you should be ashamed of their actions. Have a good day, kisses."
