The taco stall in Pasadena, California, was volunteering to feed wildfire victims and first responders.
Acts of kindness often shine brightest in times of crisis, but a recent incident involving a taco stall volunteering to feed victims and first responders of the California wildfires has left the internet fuming. The stall, operating in Pasadena, was confronted by city officials after someone reported them to the local health department. The interaction was captured on video by Tacos Los Huicholes—who goes by @tacosloshuicholes6 on TikTok—where the stall owner can be seen explaining the situation. “The city of Pasadena just approached me right now, guys, and they were asking if we were selling ‘cause we’re not allowed to sell,” the person recording the video said, emphasizing that the food was being provided free of charge to those in need.
“I’m telling them we’re not selling. We’re here volunteering. We’re just trying to feed the people that lost their homes, that are being affected, and, you know, the first responders and all that,” the person recording the video can be heard saying. In the video, the owner appears calm but frustrated as they recount the encounter with city officials. The officials, responding to the complaint, claimed they were required to verify whether the stall was operating within legal parameters. “They said they just needed to check,” the owner added, reiterating that their efforts were voluntary.
The video also captures moments of gratitude and support from those passing by the stall. People can be heard thanking the team for their efforts. “Thank you very much. Thank you. Be safe,” says one individual, while others express similar sentiments, reinforcing the impact of the stall’s work during such a challenging time. Despite the disruption, the stall owner remained resolute in their commitment to helping the community. The internet reacted swiftly to the story, with users expressing anger and disbelief over the health department complaint. Comments flooded in, defending the taco stall’s efforts and criticizing the anonymous individual who reported them.
“What trash human would call the health department for someone trying to help the people who are saving their homes and property?!” @oopsidaditagain wrote. @r_lizzy07 added, “Why are people filled with hate! This is for a good cause! To help the community! God bless everyone trying their best to help out!” @niko39955 stated, “The audacity someone thinks that y’all are selling when clearly you’re doing your best in the community to help in times of need. I bet whoever called also got a plate with no complaints.” @madaboutme2020 commented, “I hope the health department came out to support you folks and not take away from your goodness. People don’t call on people for doing good, go help them instead if you’re really concerned.”
@bobobarley echoed this sentiment, “It has to be Klover King haters. Keep up the good work. You guys don’t owe anyone, but here you are giving up your time. Stay strong and God bless everyone.” @jeanettejelinskiw added, "That is a disgrace they called the health department. You guys work so hard and have the biggest hearts. This is a time to come together. Prayers to all of you." @sumnerjadetetomo praised, "God bless you and god bless all the firefighters and first responders. May they all return home safely to their families after fighting fires day and night."
