Since her foray into the music, Lizzo has been stealing hearts with her unabashed confidence. Throughout her career, she constantly faced naysayers who attempted to attack her confidence because she did not fit into the mold of beauty standards that have been normalized for so long. The artist has faced such hypocrisy with grace and has not allowed it to deter her music one bit.

However, there have been instances where she has felt the impact of such mean comments on her mental health. According to a report by GOD, the singer recently opened up about how the fatphobic comments were close to making her quit the public spotlight.

Lizzo, after logging in to her Twitter account had faced a barrage of fatphobic comments in her mentions. "I JUST logged on the app and this is the type of sh*t I see about me on a daily basis," she said in regard to some tweets accusing her of working to "maintain her size" despite being very active. Though it is not the first instance of such a thing happening, this time, Lizzo chose not to ignore it and expressed her vulnerable side in front of her followers.

She shared how these commentaries on her weight and appearance are causing her to have thoughts about leaving the industry and settling on a farm with her partner. Thereafter, she made her account private. This kind of commentary on physical appearance is an issue that is not only limited to celebrities but also affects a wide portion of the population.

Body image is a serious issue faced by many people across the globe. Lizzo is not alone. More than 90% of the young population in Australia is suffering from body image issues. Melissa Wilton, head of communications and engagement at the Butterfly Foundation, shared with ABC that "making negative comments about someone's body or appearance can have a detrimental effect on their mental health and can potentially lead to body dissatisfaction, which is a significant risk factor in the development of an eating disorder."

Since being open about the harm such comments cause her mental health, Lizzo has requested people to keep their thoughts regarding her appearance to themselves. Her recent breakdown was caused by an individual who felt the need to question Lizzo's diet. The whole thing did not end there. Other users added to this weird public query by claiming that Lizzo is not "small" because she has made being fat her brand.

The implication that Lizzo might be working with a nutritionist to keep her size as it is for her branding is harmful. Evidently, Lizzo was hurt by these allegations and commented that such things make her "hate the world." Moreover, she also responded to the implication that she eats fast food, which, as revealed numerous times before, she stopped a few years ago. She stated that "I'm tired of explaining myself all the time and I just wanna get on this app w/out seeing my name in some bulls–t."

Metabolism rates have a lot to do with the physical appearance of individuals. It is different for different human beings. Therefore the methodology that works for a particular individual to lose weight might not be the case for others. Moreover, it might not even be possible for certain people to reach a particular body shape due to their metabolism. Hence, the objective should be to have a balanced diet and exercise to be healthy rather than becoming thin.

It is what Lizzo hinted at when she stated that her body looks like this even when she is eating clean. Therefore, nobody has any right to comment on things they have no knowledge or idea about. She is definitely reaching her breaking point, as evidenced by her tweet, “The Love definitely do not outweigh the Hate on social media... all because I’m fat???? This is CRAZY.”

After her tweets, she garnered a lot of support from her fanbase. @AmaPoundcake pointed out that the whole reason Lizzo has been undergoing such harassment is that, in a society that attaches so much worth to thinness, she stands as a woman who lives boldly in her "big Black body." @msolurin condemned the whole thing stating that the hate certain people have for fat people is unwarranted.
