This little girl went through a range of different emotions after witnessing her mother give birth.
Childbirth is not only a physically intense experience for the mother, but it can also be quite shocking for anyone witnessing it for the first time. While many viral videos show partners fainting or gagging during delivery, a unique clip recently surfaced showing an unexpected reaction from a very unusual witness—Amanda Galat’s (@amandaaa_203) 16-month-old daughter. Galat shared the video on TikTok, capturing her toddler's wide-eyed, stunned response to witnessing the birth of her sibling in the delivery room.
"That's the face of straight terror," the mom captioned her video, addressing her daughter's bewildered expressions. "POV: You just watched your mom give birth and don't know if you are traumatized or excited," the text overlay on the video mentioned. The clip begins with a shot of Galat holding her newborn baby over her chest while lying in the delivery room bed as her husband holds their toddler daughter in his arms. Galat's daughter has her eyes wide in shock as she looks around, mouth agape, as she wordlessly reacts to what she just witnessed. Random spurts of giggles erupt from the little one, who looks visibly unsure about her recent experience.
People in the comment section of Galat's video were all pointing out the youngster's funny expressions. @sandinyoureye recalled, "I accidentally gave birth at home. My 15-month-old saw it. He was so excited and he shouted, 'baby! baby!' to the paramedics who came." @kelly.oppenheim commented, "Everyone’s talking about the labor shakes but I didn’t have them after I gave birth. I just laid there. I couldn’t speak or look at anybody but my son. I couldn’t cry, smile or laugh and scream ." @treefrog2001 added, "They wouldn't let me have my 1-year-old in the room with me and my husband for my second baby."
Newsweek got in touch with Galat who shared her experience of giving birth for the second time and the presence of her first child. "I originally wasn't going to have her in the hospital room with me, but I had missed her, so I asked my cousin who was babysitting her, if she could bring her to the hospital before the baby came so I could see her one last time," the 22-year-old mom told the outlet. Galat was in labor earlier than expected and she did not see her daughter for two days.
"They were running late and by the time they got to the hospital, they were giving me the epidural and breaking my water. Then the baby came very shortly after that and there wasn't enough time to have them leave and take her back home," Galat further explained. There were a few other things that might have stunned her daughter in the delivery room. Galat revealed that she experienced intense shaking and her teeth were chattering as the result of labor shakes.
Labor shakes, while alarming, are a common response to the stress and hormonal changes of childbirth, according to Esperanza Birth. "Once they gave me the epidural, I started itching and shaking so bad, and by the time the baby came I was shaking so bad I could barely sit still," she said. "They calmed down about an hour or so after I had given birth, but they were so intense in the beginning."
