The basketball player had left Lithuania to study in America and hadn’t seen his mother for years until his coaches surprised him.
Being away from your parents is never easy. The desire to see them, hear their voices, and feel their warmth never fades. However, no matter how long the separation lasts or how much time passes before you finally reunite, some true bonds remain just as strong, filled with the same care, affection, and understanding. Likewise, Norbertas Giga, a Lithuanian basketball player, received an unforgettable surprise when his coaches reunited him with his mother—whom he hadn't seen for five years. Yes, that's right! Giga believed he was simply going to watch a film—until his mom walked into the room, reducing him to uncontrollable tears. The beautiful video shared on ESPN UK's official Facebook page received an overwhelming response from the viewers.
In the heartwarming video, just as Giga stepped into a room filled with his coaches, someone asked playfully, "What did your mom used to tell you about belt whippings? Do you need them?" Playing along, the professional basketball player chuckled as he revealed he would often get smacked with a belt, adding that the last time it happened was about 8 years ago. "I am tired of belt-whipping you myself, so come on in here; we are going to get the real thing here for you," the coach said, as the door swung open, revealing a familiar face. Giga couldn't believe his eyes as he paced around, repeatedly exclaiming, "No!" He broke into tears as he pulled his mother into a tight, heartfelt embrace. As per the outlet, Giga left Lithuania to study in America and hadn’t seen his mother for years, making their reunion a truly emotional moment.
Meanwhile, reacting to the Facebook post, Jolante Yarborough commented, "Awesome and a great program to go to for those basketball players who are looking for coaches that care about family as much as the game." Similarly, Tammy Easton Kearns, a parent herself, shared, "Love this so much. I too have seen it already, but will watch it every time. I have a son & understand completely." Tina Ible wrote, "Nothing like a mother & son bond. That was beautiful. I have a 17-year-old son, plus he's taller than me. I cried when I saw that." Sandy Garmany-Sidoti revealed, "As the mom of four boys and grandmother of four boys, I can tell you without a doubt there is nothing like the love a mom or grandma gets from her boys."
Amanda James, who was seemingly emotional by the reunion video, wrote, "Few people actually have no idea how it feels seeing your child after years apart... I've been there, and it's so emotional." Natalie Johnson revealed, "I was away from my kids for over five years, reunited, and seven years later, my oldest daughter joined the Air Force. I can't wait to hug her again. My heart hurts, but it’s her future!" On the other hand, Michael Lofranco shared, "Nothing is more beautiful than seeing your mother, especially when it's been so long." Elliott Webster commented, "There’s no woman that’s more important in a man’s life than a loving mother." Arambula Marie wrote, "No matter how old or how big of a man or woman a Momma bear is, she is always missed and will bring you to happy tears!"
