The pop star, who rose to fame in her teenage years with her father as her manager, reveals why it's better to keep family and business separate.
It is often said that family and loved ones should not interfere in anyone's business or financial matters. The reason for the same is bias, destruction of relationships in the bargain of conflict and several other reasons. Growing up, children want their parents to be their best supporters, ones whom they can count on for advice, love and help. However, parents get too into the idea of support and try to manage and take on the onus of their kids’ careers and often things go downhill. Singer and songwriter LeAnn Rimes recently explained through her experience why parents should not manage their child’s career, per PEOPLE.
The 41-year-old star spoke about Britney Spears’ memoir, where she talked about her relationships and career with a focus on her father, who tried to control her profession and business. Rimes was able to relate to the star for two major reasons. The first was the prime of her stardom in her teen and youth years, just like Spears and the other was her long-fought battle with her father for her career. Her story goes back to 1998, but she still remembers the life lessons she learned even today. Rimes had filed a lawsuit against her father and manager, Wilbur Rimes, for having stolen and spent millions of her earnings.

The case carried on for a long period, affecting the peace and bond the father-daughter duo shared. It was not until 2011 that the two reconciled at the time of Rimes’ marriage. The singer shared her regrets and experience from having her father as a manager and having to sue him. She said, “Looking back, I think my dad did the best that he could. Parents managing a child is always a recipe for disaster.” She highlighted that business and relationships coming together is not always the best idea. She also confessed how she chose the business track and how it affected their relationship. She said, “For me, it became a business and I ended up not having parents.”
Rimes also shared a message about balancing career and relationships. She mentioned that having earned the pomp at an early age, she was overworked and stressed and didn’t get to enjoy much of her childhood as one would hope to. She also said that she didn’t learn about womanhood until a few years ago and described herself as “gutsy” for having gotten into all the grandeur at such a young age. The singer is mother to her stepsons, Jake and Mason, with her husband Brandi Glanville and she truly enjoys their childhood and being a mother to them over everything else.

In an Instagram post, Rimes shared a glimpse of a conversation she had with the Happy Place podcast. She opened up about her career, childhood and children. She revealed that she had a rough childhood. “My mom was depressed, my dad was angry, they wouldn't get along and I was an only child,” the actor said. She also shared that she became a people pleaser and that paved the way for her career as well. She then added that exploring childhood with her stepsons has been the most fulfilling thing for her. “I have loved seeing the kids have a childhood. I never had that,” she said. Rimes further added, “To give that to someone else, it’s been really special.”
