Despite the celebrity confessing in public that Dufrene is her 'one and the only,' one erratic fan said that the marriage won’t last too long

A comment predicting Lana Del Rey’s marriage with Jeffery Dufrene wouldn’t last caught attention online, but it was her husband's response that people couldn’t stop talking about. The exchange began under an Instagram post on March 28 from the singer’s account, @honeymoon, where she had uploaded a carousel of clips and photos from their honeymoon while celebrating Dufrene's birthday. Despite Rey confessing that Dufrene is her "one and the only," that one erratic comment questioning their relationship prompted Dufrene to clap back with a calm but pointed reply.
In the Instagram post, Rey wrote, "Happy birthday week to the sweetest guy I know." Dufrene replied with, "So many amazing months, weeks, days, minutes and seconds with you. You’re such an amazing wife, always making me smile and the laughter itself we share together is so heart touching." While most users responded with warmth, one user (@hollingsworth.levi) said, "I’m sorry but the marriage won’t last. I will give it two years tops. The honeymoon will soon be over, and I can’t wait because it’s affecting her music." The remark, later deleted, resurfaced in a March 29 Reddit post by u/Glitch_Fantasma.

Dufrene hit back with a thunderous response. He tagged the commentator, saying their comment “sounds like it’s affecting your life.” “Don’t you have a woman to give your attention and love to besides worrying about someone else’s marriage? You are jealous of what I have and you don’t," he said. Dufrene ended the message by saying, “Find love in yourself, bro. Life is easier that way.”
Dufrene is an airboat tour guide who first came into the spotlight in 2019 when Del Rey met him during her visit to Louisiana for the BUKU Music + Art Project Festival, where she said she realized “pretty immediately” that she loved him, reported Entertainment Weekly. The two reconnected in September 2024 at Karen Elson’s wedding and tied the knot just weeks later. Since then, they have kept their relationship relatively private, though that hasn’t stopped fans and paparazzi from closely watching them.
The prediction sounds uncanny, given that it’s been nearly a year and a half since the couple got married, and everything looks just as perfect as it could be. One possible reason for this suspicion, as The Daily Dot also notes, is Rey’s 10th studio album, Stove. Fans have been expecting the album to come out in September 2024, but the singer has delayed its release twice, pushing it back to May 11, 2026.

This, however, doesn’t give someone an excuse to evoke such despising thoughts in the fan community. The scenario is exasperating, but not something new for celebrity couples like Rey and Dufrene. As per a 2022 study, 51% Americans engaged in parasocial relationships, even though just 16% admitted to it. 26% of people even felt emotionally affected by celebrity-related events. Studies have also found that intense celebrity attachment is linked to higher levels of anxiety and stress, which can sometimes spill over into intrusive or judgmental behavior online.

Readers were equally upset by the crude comment. “Commenting this on a stranger’s Instagram post, whether they are famous or not, is weird as f**k,” said u/Fleetwood_Spac. u/ocubens wrote, “They want her to marry the exact kind of guy they want so they can live vicariously through her.”
