SZA, on crutches, struggled to get to the stage as the long tulle train trailed behind her, and that's when Lady Gaga stepped up to help her.
There were some amazing winners at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards as well as some great performances, but one moment that caught the eye of some hawk-eyed fans was a small act of kindness from Lady Gaga. The incident happened shortly after the winner for the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance was announced. The nominees were Doja Cat and SZA for “Kiss Me More,” Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco for “Lonely,” BTS for “Butter,” Coldplay for “Higher Power” and Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga for “I Get a Kick Out of You.” When Doja Cat and SZA were announced as winners, SZA had a tough time getting to the stage as she was on crutches due to an injured ankle. Lady Gaga, who had just lost out on the award to SZA, helped her with her dress as she made her way to the stage.
Fans couldn't help but laud Lady Gaga for the grace and kindness she showed despite just losing the award to SZA and Doja Cat. SZA was wearing a skintight mermaid-cut Jean Paul Gaultier gown with a long tulle train, but mobility was proving a hindrance as she tried to make it to the stage on crutches, especially up the stairs. Lady Gaga was applauding SZA when she realized she needed help. Lady Gaga bent down to pick up the long tulle train and carry it for her until SZA got up on stage. Doja Cat wasn't on hand to help either as she had gone to the bathroom just before the award was announced. SZA herself didn't notice Lady Gaga helping her with the tulle train as she searched for Doja Cat while making it to the stage. Lady Gaga also made headlines for her kindness during the Oscars. She accompanied Liza Minnelli to the stage and when the Hollywood legend slipped up while announcing the nominees for Best Picture at the Oscars, Lady Gaga calmed her and reassured her, "I got you.” Minelli, with gratitude in her voice, responded, “I know, thank you.”
Did you see @ladygaga help @sza (who’s on crutches) with her train just now? After that and the kindness she showed #LizaMinelli at the Oscars, WHOO! The care she shows others just FLOORS me. #GRAMMYs— yvette nicole brown (@YNB) April 4, 2022
SZA watched Doja Cat rush onto the stage and said into the mic, "Girl, you went to the bathroom for five minutes, are you serious?” The audience burst out in laughter. Doja Cat gathered her breath and said, “I have never taken such a fast p*** in my whole life.” The duo had everyone laughing before carrying on with their acceptance speech. Both of them were grateful for the award and thanked each other, getting emotional on stage in a powerful moment. Doja thanked her family, team and fans for the win. She then turned to SZA and uttered, “You are everything to me. You are incredible. You’re the epitome of talent.” Doja Cat reached out to hug her. SZA got emotional as well, and said, "I like to downplay sh*t. But this? This is a big deal.” Lady Gaga could be seen holding her palms together, looking at them with awe.
Lady Gaga did win Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for her album "Love for Sale." This was her 13th grammy. “I won my thirteenth Grammy last night, and I cried just like the first time I won for ‘Poker Face,’” she wrote on Twitter. “Tony and I are so grateful for this honor. I was so proud to be a part of such a beautiful community of musicians where so many people were rewarded for their artistry. Congratulations to everyone for all the awards, and performances and for your devotion to music. And thank you for that standing ovation! You truly lifted my spirits on a night when I truly missed my friend — he would have been so happy that in 2022 everyone stood up for jazz! I love you!!” she added.
Gaga also paid an emotional tribute to Tony Bennett, who she worked with on multiple occasions during the last few years of his career. Tony Bennett has retired due to his ongoing battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Lady Gaga performed a medley of songs from the album "Love for Sale" and got tearful as she gave a shoutout to her music partner. “I love you, Tony. We miss you,” she said.
#LadyGaga is indeed a "vessel of love" showing respect & kindness to Liza Minelli. Lady softly said to Liza, "I gotcha." And Liza was barely audible when she responded, "I know" Here's what I know. Lady Gaga is a class act - a beautiful human being. #AcademyAward pic.twitter.com/ntRkphVR9M— Charles Adler (@charlesadler) March 28, 2022
Between Lady Gaga’s compassion for Liza Minelli at the Oscars, her Grammy tribute to Tony Bennett and then helping SZA with her dress to get on stage (in crutches), how are we not honoring her kindness more 💗💗💗— Melissa Chase (@MChaseRadio) April 4, 2022
