Neighborhood disputes are unavoidable, especially when dealing with entitled people. A resident (u/thatguysyzygy) experienced something similar when a lady next door expected them to sign away their large driveway for her ambitious pool plan. The person shared that her neighbor's unhinged behavior left them stranded in insecurity and fear. The post has received 14,000 upvotes on Reddit.

Unreal audacity

The author said they hadn’t spoken to their neighbor for the past six to seven years, which made it seem bizarre when she reached out to them on a random day. Her husband had been decent and friendly but “acts like he is defeated by his wife," the author explained. On the other hand, the lady next door often gave them “dirty looks.” This time, however, she left them confused by a strange request. She asked them to sign some papers for constructing a new swimming pool. When the author inquired about the paperwork, she responded, saying that it was regarding their driveway.

Call it her audacity, but the woman was looking forward to snagging a portion of the author's driveway to build a pool for her kids. She didn’t even start with a request; she just gave a time and asked the author to come and sign the papers. When the author refused to give up their driveway, she seemed offended and started behaving erratically.

The author also used this opportunity to confront their neighbor about the Amazon packages that she stole each time they arrived at the wrong address.

From demands to threats

The woman’s brash attempts to rob the driveway continued. From setting traffic cones in their driveway to sending a threatening voicemail and shaming their “half-Korean, half-European” kids, she kept on going with her entitled behavior. When the author kept on refusing, rage possessed her. But while she carried on with her tantrums, the author started planning how to protect their kids from this aggressive woman. They explained that although there are cameras on their property, nothing captures activities in the driveway. The lady might try to be violent with their kids. The author even took a day off from work to keep an eye on the property in case the lady forged their signature.

Trouble next door

According to a study published in the Scholarly Journal of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences, the neighbour’s behavior can be classified as an exaggerated sense of entitlement, where an individual has unrealistic expectations that others will fulfil their every need and wish. Excessive entitlement makes an individual dismiss others' feelings in favour of their own interests. Meanwhile, Anytime Estimate surveyed 1,000 adults and found that 56% have some complaint or other about their neighbour, and 49% said their neighbour made them go through a bad experience. More than 1 in 5 (22%) residents reported feeling unsafe and uncomfortable with their neighbors.

'Call the cops'

Reacting to the Reddit post, u/cjxerxes cautioned the author and suggested, “Get some cameras on your property ASAP. Buy a gun. "Don't let her know you have it and don’t use it, but it’s always good to have.” Another person said, “Dude, I read the texts, and you need to call the cops. She made threats. Make sure the construction company knows she does not have rights to your driveway too.”
