David King was about to lose his battle with cancer. All he wanted to do was bid farewell to his pup, so his nurses made it happen.
Ellie Miguel’s grandfather David King was sick in a hospital in Missouri; he was losing his battle to cancer. Everyone knew that he didn't have much longer left. Not knowing if he would make it back home to say goodbye to everyone he loved, he felt a sense of despair and hopelessness. Though he was surrounded by his caring family members, there was one loved one he wouldn't have been able to see: his pup Lil Fee. Instead of letting him pass without bidding farewell to his best friend, the nurses help David's family sneak Lil Fee into his hospital room so he could say goodbye one last time, Yahoo! Lifestyle reports.
His wife Cindy, Ellie's grandmother, would often talk about Lil Fee with the nurses when she was at the hospital. She even brought in photos of the adorable pupper to hang around the hospital room in the hopes of cheering her husband up a little bit. Ellie stated in an interview with Yahoo! Lifestyle, "My grandpa loved his dog Lil Fee; she would follow him around everywhere. He would bring her everywhere he could. My grandpa had been battling cancer for the past couple of years, but last week it took over his whole body. He spent about a week in the hospital, and my grandma brought pictures of the dog to hang up."
When it had become clear that David probably wouldn't be able to say goodbye to Lil Fee, Cindy decided to take matters into her own hands. "The nurses always heard my grandma talking about Lil Fee," the granddaughter explained. "So they encouraged her and helped her get the dog in. They had my aunt carry the dog in a really big purse." With the help of the old man's nurses, his loving wife was able to grant him one last moment of pure, unadulterated joy before he passed. Ellie said of the moment, "For the first time that day, he moved his arm in attempts to pet his Lil Fee. It was a moment I’ll never forget." It was a rather emotional experience for the whole family.
Ellie tweeted about the exchange right after it happened. She posted to the social media platform, "My grandpa is losing his battle with cancer so the nurses helped my grandma sneak their dog into the hospital to say goodbye." She also uploaded a photo of the moment. In the picture, David is seen leaning his face against Lil Fee as someone holds the puppy up. The tweet soon went viral, garnering hundreds of likes and shares. As a result of her tweet, Ellie found out that hers wasn't the only family to sneak a pet into the hospital. Several others have carried their furry friends into the hospital too. One Twitter user even balled her dog up under a blanket and pretended she was "pregnant" with her pup. Ultimately, all that matters is giving the sick a final moment of peace and happiness.
