Kid called 911 to investigate monster under his bed. So an officer came in and grabbed it by the head

Nico didn't want the SWAT team to get involved, so he decided to team up with a police officer to tackle his crisis

In the dead of the night, while his parents were fast asleep, a young boy named Nico found himself in a massive crisis. There was a "monster" lurking beneath his brother's bed with "big black teeth." To him, this situation felt every bit as life-threatening as a house fire or break-in. So, he decided to do what everyone is taught to do when in danger: he picked up the phone and dialed 911. Clutching his Nerf gun, he awaited backup to arrive. What happened next was quite unexpected, as shown in the April 25 clip from The Public Services.

Tackling the 'monster' under the bed

As soon as the officer showed up at Nico's house, the boy opened the door, fully geared up with a helmet, gloves, and his Nerf gun. When the officer asked him about the problem and where his parents were, he said that his parents were asleep and that he had spotted a monster under his brother's bed. The officer realized the situation and asked Nico whether he was up for the task or should he call the SWAT team? Sure enough, Nico was ready to barge into his brother's room and get rid of the lurking monster.

A piece of advice

Both of them then entered the room, and the officer bent down to see what it was all about. He then proceeded to grab the monster by the neck, which was his brother's toy. It made a sound when its mouth opened, which, to be fair, looked like a monster. "You want me to get rid of it for you, put it outside so you can get some good sleep?" the officer asked Nico, to which he agreed. The officer assured him, saying, "You know you did the right thing, but next time you gotta tell your parents okay?" This heartwarming interaction, where the officer treated this kid's fear with the same gravity as a high-stakes call, didn't end without another wholesome gesture.

Before leaving the scene, the officer not only took care of the monster but also decided to hand young Nico a special SWAT team badge, making him an honorary member of the team for the bravery he displayed despite being scared. Meanwhile, this interaction was a rare insight into the compassion required to be in the emergency services.

Children's ability to contact 911

It's also quite impressive that Nico was able to contact 911, as studies show that despite phones being widely accessible to kids nowadays, only a handful can actually use them at times of emergencies. According to a recent study, despite approximately 80% of the kids aged 2-4 having access to phones, none of the kids in kindergarten and Grade 1 were able to identify an emergency and dial 911. Although this number did rise 20% with children in Grades 2 and 3, it still remained pretty low. And so, it goes to show that parents need to work with their kids and show them how to react to an emergency.

People were quite impressed with Nico's heroics as well as the police officer's patience. @RobinPoe wrote, "The patience and understanding of this policeman will affect the young boy's attitude about law enforcement for a long time." Meanwhile, @OpinionParade commented, "The kid wasn't lying. He described exactly what he heard and saw." While @kristikills6116 wondered, "Can u imagine him showing his parents his SWAT team medal and them being like WHAAAAT?!?!?"
