Keanu Reeves has kept the legacy of his kindness alive by fulfilling the wish of a young boy who wanted to play ball with him.
Actor Keanu Reeves has graced the screen playing roles such as a hitman and an exorcist for his almost four-decade career. But the role for which he has garnered the most adoration is his innumerable turns as a kind and genuine human in real life. The internet is filled with stories about Reeves' kindness. One more recently joined the collection, as Reeves fulfilled a young fan's wish and played ball with him, as reported by KHOU. This happened in September, when Reeves was about to perform with his band, Dogstar, in Houston, Texas. The band has reunited after almost 20 years, performing shows all across America.
Dogstar is a three-member band including Keanu Reeves, Robert Mailhouse and Bret Domrose that was active till 2002, as per Variety. After two decades of no activity, the band officially returned with a performance at the BottleRock Napa Valley music festival. In order to promote their album 'Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees', the band has been performing across many venues in the country. The group's Texas venue was House of Blues. Similar to other venues, this one was also filled with Reeves' well-wishers and fans waiting to watch the superstar perform.
Nine-year-old Elijah was also amongst the legion of fans waiting for the actor and singer with bated breaths. Elijah was accompanied by his brother Caleb and grandmother Annette Cruz. Both the brothers went there at the insistence of Cruz, who has developed a hobby of meeting celebrities. In her life, she has met almost 100 celebrities. “I like to fish, for me, it’s like fishing," Cruz said of the hobby. Seeing that Reeves would be in Texas for a concert, she decided to add another name to the list. She took her grandsons with her.
After the brothers got an autograph, Elijah put forward another request. "I asked him if he could play catch with me," he said, “I asked him the first time and he kind of mumbled something. But I didn’t hear him so I asked him again and he said 'Yeah, come on let's go.'"
The next 30 seconds were nothing short of a dream for the boy as he played with the superstar. “I was really nervous because I was playing catch with a famous superstar," Elijah reflected. “I was surprised he did it and then he said, 'Hey, he’s got a great spiral.' I'm like thanks. I said, 'That’s a day he’s always going to remember,'" Cruz said. Caleb was not left behind as the actor fulfilled his wish of getting a photo by posing for a selfie. “I asked if I could get a picture and that’s when my brother got to play catch with him," Caleb said.
Elijah loved the whole experience so much that he has decided to keep the football that both of them played with forever. Reeves has always been loving towards his fans. The actor also talked to a fan in her 80s when her son revealed to the star how much she adored him. He was at a restaurant, busy with his meal, but still took time to talk to his fan. They talked for a few minutes but he must have made her entire day by his kind gesture. Another fan encounter saw the actor buy an ice cream that he did not want, just to grace his fan with an autograph on its receipt. The list is endless, but the impact made by the actor on his fans will linger for years to come.
