Kate Cassidy (@kateecass), the former girlfriend of Liam Payne, revealed that she is finally ready to date again, nearly 18 months after the singer's death in October 2024. Unfortunately, her return to the dating world got off to a rocky start. On May 26, she shared a short clip of herself talking about one of the worst dates of her life. While meeting a new guy at a bar, the conversation turned to pets. After he mentioned owning a Yorkie, Cassidy told him about her pit bull, Nala. The moment he heard it was a pit bull, his entire demeanor changed, and he started giving her a lecture on how pitbulls are not safe. The TikTok video has reached 559,200 views, 51,000 likes, and 515 comments.

Nala's introduction

Cassidy began recording the video right after she left her date. She started with, "I am genuinely, like, shaking right now. I'm so angry. I just left a date, actually, the worst date of my entire life." Cassidy later explained exactly what frustrated her. The conversation had started innocently enough, but as soon as he learned that her dog was a pit bull, his "face completely dropped." "He looks at me, and he was like, 'A pit bull? I would not imagine you with a pit bull at all,'" she said. He began admonishing her and went on about how pit bulls are the most dangerous breed of dog. He even had the nerve to say that they should be executed.

'Most absurd thing ever'

Instead of stopping there, the man went on to say, "I would never let my dog meet your dog, ever." Cassidy continued to describe their interaction, "And he's laughing, but also being so serious at the same time. It was the weirdest, most absurd thing ever." She listened to him with a stunned expression, not believing what was coming out of the man's mouth. Before she left, he said that pit bulls should not be allowed at dog parks, emphasizing how dangerous they were. "They shouldn't be able to socialize with any other dogs," and that was when she decided to get up and leave, having heard enough.

Thoughts on pit bulls

People have different opinions about pets, especially dog breeds. A YouGov survey conducted in 2014 found that only 31% are considering adopting pit bulls, 40% think pit bulls are too dangerous to live in residential neighborhoods, and 24% think pit bulls are very dangerous to other people and animals. Another survey by ANIMALS 24-7 found that 68% of the respondents (71% men and 62% women) do not want to live next to a house with a pit bull. The majority of people seem to be wary of pit bulls, worried about their aggressive behavior. Cassidy's date shared the same notion, but might have communicated it a little too harshly.

Cassidy's followers have seen what type of dog Nala was and know her temperament. Several came to defend Nala in the comment section. @hhaegeum wrote, "Pitbulls are super sweet! Literally, they are just shy and kind of awkward and super cute." @billieswifewlw added, "I grew up with an American pit bull. He was big, but a big baby."
