Kansas man ordered jet boats from Temu expecting a bargain — the moment he opened the box, he knew he had messed up

What started as a Temu jet boat test for Weston Champlin and Co. soon turned into a massive rescue mission

It's safe to say that most of us have ordered something online, tracked the package online for days, and opened the box, only to realize that the "high-quality" item looks like it belongs in the dollhouse. Well, this exact bait-and-switch feeling hit Kansas-based YouTuber Westen Champlin (@WestenChamplin) when he unboxed three mini jet boats ordered straight from Temu. However, even though his first thought was that he had been ripped off, he still decided to take these aluminum electric jet boats for a spin. What happened next turned out to be pure internet gold. The entire ordeal was shared on his channel on May 23, 2026, in a clip that has amassed over 2.1 million views.

The boats passed the first test

The actual boats turned out to be way smaller than the photos on the website. Still, Champlin convinced his partners, Kyle and Garrett, to try to fit inside these boats. While Champlin and Kyle managed to squeeze in, Garrett didn't want any part of this activity. Regardless, the crew then decided to head to the lake to see how these Temu mini boats held up in the water. As soon as they got there, Champlin got into the boat and tried to drive it across the water. Meanwhile, Kyle was having the time of his life ripping the boat across the water.

However, soon Champlin sank two out of the three boats while trying to get out of the water. "I swear to God, it was turned into a torpedo at the end. We’ve seen what these things are capable of when they’re loaded to their capacity," he commented. Admitting that he needed a larger vessel, Weston then pulled out a gas-powered boat, which he bought from a man about two years ago, bigger than the Temu ones. This was on top of another, full-sized jet boat that Garrett was testing out simultaneously.

On to the next phase

Following this successful test, Champlin and his team decided to put the electric one, the medium one, and the actual jet boat to test in the river. However, their plan was immediately met with disaster, as water levels were incredibly low in the river. But that didn't stop the entire gang from putting their boats in the water with hopes of making things work. But soon enough, the shallow sandbar claimed the entire fleet. Weston's engine overheated and failed, while downriver, Kyle's Temu boat ran out of battery.

Stranded in the dark

By 8:30 p.m., the crew was left completely stranded, with their boats, trailers, and even the support Jeep all trapped in the river. So, naturally, they had to start a rescue mission for all their vehicles. But even their recovery attempt turned into a massive comedy of errors. First, Garrett drove a Ford Bronco to pull the gear out, but got stuck in the mud. He then brought his Mercedes G-Wagon, which also got claimed by the river mud. Now, somehow, they were in an even worse position than before, with time running out.

Rescued at last

With them running out of options, the crew then called their friend, Aaron, who brought out his massive truck called "Rubber Ducky," only for him to get stuck as well. So, after a grueling all-night ordeal that lasted until sunrise, Weston and Co. acquired another Bronco, equipped with winches and long cables, which finally helped them pull everything out of the river.

Regardless, even though Weston got the shorter stick in this instance, which is quite common while shopping on Temu, people do like the platform overall, as it provides some good deals. In fact, according to a survey held by Choice, about 80% of the people were satisfied with their purchase. But again, these purchases included about 73.3% kitchen items or clothing (72.9%). "You get what you pay for," was the common feeling among these customers.

Nonetheless, people in the comments were thrilled with this entire experience, as they expressed their feelings. @Yekyzen wrote, "Watching the crew take on those Temu jet boats — and the subsequent mission to recover every single stuck vehicle — was pure chaos in the best way possible." At the same time, @opens11 said, "This was the epitome of a bunch of dudes messing around lol."
