Actor Jon Hamm has welcomed an adorable new furry companion into his heart and his home. The Mad Men star, who is an avid dog lover, gave a new lease on life to a four-month-old rescue dog who'd been returned to the shelter twice before. Los Angeles based nonprofit organization, I Stand With My Pack (ISWMP), on Wednesday announced the heartwarming news that the 49-year-old actor has adopted a Shepherd mix named Splash. Posting the cutest photo of Splash with his new human, ISWMP wrote on social media: "He was returned twice at the shelter because of his puppy energy. We rescued him and found him the best home."

"He lives a fairy tale life now. Happy adoption Splash. We are over the moon for you," the organization added. In the photo shared by ISWMP, Splash can be seen cuddling with Hamm sporting a huge grin on his face while his toys seemed to pepper the lawn behind them. According to Daily Mail, Hamm has long been an avid advocate for animal rescue. He previously adopted another Shepherd mix named Cora who was with him for 14 years before she devastatingly passed away in 2017.

Speaking to PEOPLE in 2015 about how Cora changed his life, Hamm revealed that it was love at first sight when he met the canine. "I went to see her with the idea of fostering her," he explained. "But after meeting her I knew I had to keep her." Gushing that it had been a "pure joy" to watch Cora grow over the years, he added: "We think she was about one when we got her. She had all of her adult teeth but she was skinny." The star also credited his furry friend for changing his life for the better.

"It has changed my life in such a positive way. Pets can bring to us a sense of love and pride and all of those wonderful things," Hamm said at the time. "I wish more people would take advantage of pet rescue. It’s easy to do and inexpensive. Cora provides me with pure joy and love – and those are two pretty nice things to have in your life." The star, who adopted Cora during the early days of his relationship with actress Jennifer Westfeldt, opened up losing his furry friend in a 2017 interview with The New York Times the day after the canine's death.

"Cora was the best," he said. "I was scheduled to fly in at 8 o'clock in the morning, and she passed away right before I got there. It's been a real hard 24 hours for both me and Jen. She was 17. She brought a lot of love and a lot of good times to me and other people and Jen, and she'll always have a real sweet place in my heart. I could go on for three hours about Cora, and I won't, because I'll just be a mess."

News of Hamm adopting Splash was well received by animal rescue enthusiasts on social media, some of whom shared their own rescue stories. "Our boy was on his third chance when we adopted him from the shelter. Only 2-years-old and already shuffled through 3 shelters. He was a bit of a handful, but with a lot of patience and love and time, he’s grown into the dog he was meant to be. Thank you for all you do for these little loves," commented Instagram user Moira MacGregor Conrad. "Rescue dogs are the only dogs we adopt. We have done this for over 30 years and each one lives in our hearts forever," wrote another user named Patricia.
