'A good pancake should stand alone naked,' Cena asserted.
John Cena and Idris Elba recently appeared with Josh & Ollie for an episode of "American vs. English Breakfast" for a surprisingly intense (but hilarious) showdown, arguing about the ultimate breakfast choice. The episode was shared on Jolly's (@jolly) official YouTube channel on July 4, 2025, and has gotten 4,395.3K views since its release. The episode began with the hosts, Josh & Ollie, serving Cena and Elba some delicious American breakfast — pancakes, scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, and coffee. As Cena, the world-famous wrestler, went on to proudly introduce the American platter, Elba interrupted, "And there's an extra side of cholesterol as well." Moving on, Cena went on to talk more about pancakes, calling them "baked goods" that should be tried with no add-ons. "A good pancake should stand alone naked," he added. However, when they tasted the pancakes served to them, not everyone agreed with Cena, especially Elba, who complained about having to chew on that pancake for a long time. Cena, being considerate enough, let everyone add some syrup onto the pancakes, saying there are "phases to enjoying an American breakfast."

To test him further, Elba asked Cena to enlighten everyone about the history of pancakes, and surprisingly, the WWE wrestler had an elaborate 'made-up' answer. "So, the Earl of Pan created this cake that they wanted to serve at dinner. But they found out that it was delicious and nutritious and good for barn building, so they served it at breakfast," he said, making everyone chuckle. Next, Ollie brought some doughnuts onto the table, calling them another American staple, and Cena agreed. "This is a delicacy that crossed the waters," he shared. With Cena constantly defending American breakfast and Elba throwing expert questions at him, they moved on to try some English breakfast — English sausage, bacon, fried egg, roasted tomato, mushrooms, black pudding, etc.
"How is this less calories than the American breakfast?" Cena asked, hinting at Elba's remark about American breakfast. The hosts then made Cena try toast with only beans, something they called very common for Britons, but the wrestler didn't look too excited about it. After tasting the elaborate English breakfast, Cena confessed that it was much better than he expected. "I guess, it's not actually as plain as it looks," he said. American and English food are quite different, starting from the basic preference of coffee and tea. Just as shown in the episode, Business Insider claims that Americans love coffee, whereas in the UK, people prefer tea with meals. "A lot of my English friends’ families would have ‘tea time’ in the afternoon, but it was literally just like having a pot of tea and a little snack," a person named Genevieve shared.
John Cena and Idris Elba's fun banter on Jolly's YouTube channel went viral, with most people admiring the celebrity duo for their raw, unfiltered selves on the show. For instance, @dilladonuts8215 commented, "Idris is clearly an introvert with quick one-liners (witty British). John is clearly a charming extrovert (American boisterous). Both are amazing!" Echoing the sentiments, @robrobitaille4235 shared, "I didn't realize how funny and articulate John is. He killed it. And as usual, the crew of Jolly crushed it as well. Well done. Loved it!"
Another user who goes by @dravengal on YouTube said, "This was just delightful. I had no idea John Cena was SO funny, but he's awesome. Idris is a riot, too. I'd love to see the blooper reel. Perfect guests for Jolly. Honestly, this is my favorite channel; it really is." @briterry4961 commented, "English breakfast looks like you were hungry and hadn't been to the store, so you put whatever you could find in your fridge and pantry together on a plate."
