One man is opening up about how he sent over 100 job applications but only got a few call backs for an interview and how others like him can get employers to notice them.
Jobseeking is a tedious cycle of sending out applications, hopefully, and getting numerous rejections until you secure that one golden opportunity. A man named Miles Beard on LinkedIn, who has 5 years of experience in B2B marketing, made a post to reveal how he has been hunting for his next job opportunity. Through the 2 month long process, he has acquired some sound knowledge about applying to companies and how one can get noticed quickly compared to other job aspirants.
Beard initially revealed in his post that he will be opting for a remote job opportunity this time around. He also had referrals for two in-person jobs, but none of them worked out in the end. While job hunting, Beard is also taking advantage of his time off from work and enjoying time with his son. Then he went on to list down all the lessons he learned in the past two months while sending out several applications for a suitable job position.
"Anytime I see a LinkedIn Easy Apply job, I try to go to the company website and apply directly there. Most of my interviews have come from applying through websites instead of directly on LinkedIn," he suggested. "Job interview cycles are much longer than they were when I was laid off in 2021. For instance, my interview timeline for my last job was about 2 weeks and that included an HR/recruiter interview, a hiring manager interview, a leadership interview and an offer letter. Many recruiters have been telling me 4-6 week timelines."
Beard is also utilizing a free Notion template for job tracking and it helps him to keep a check on all the applications he has sent out. "I made sure to keep consistent information on my resume, portfolio and LinkedIn profile. It helps to have a PDF file and an online version of a resume, depending on the job application process. Here's my job activity since the end of June. 184 applications, 4 current interview cycles, 38 rejections and 3 ridiculous pre-interview assignments," he concluded. Many others in the community showed their support towards Beard and shared their own experience while seeking out a job as well.
Sheena Rose Navarro commented, "That's good advice. Next time I see Easy Apply, I'll go to the company website. There are some here on LinkedIn that will bring you to the company career website too. In my experience, it usually takes 3 months from end to end from submitting a resume to an offer letter." Malasia K. added, "People keep saying remote is dying out. You probably do your research, but I think it could be beneficial to do so even more or try talking to more people if you can ensure the position truly is remote. It's becoming an even larger gray area than before, and many are listing jobs as remote when they really want you in the office four days a week. Anyway, best of luck and I hope you and your son are well!"
In a similar instance, another jobseeker spilled the details on how a person can use AI to build their perfect resume and get noticed by their dream companies and recruiters. Leah (@leah_sahdm) on TikTok has shared the perfect hack to construct an impeccable resume. All you need to do is seek help from the popular AI writing tool ChatGPT. She explains in the clip that she has been searching for a new job since quitting her previous job "very impulsively." Leah shared screenshots of the prompts she used to get her perfect resume.
"It’s gonna generate an objective statement and these bullet points. It’s gonna organize your bullet points and your work experience from this job into a couple of different categories. In references, you’re going to say ‘available upon request.’ Do not put your references on your resume. Your references should correlate to the positions. Now, this is where I added my second place of work. I worked at this job in two different positions. So, I did the same thing. ‘Ask me all the questions you need,’ and that’s what it asked me down here," Leah explained.
