Tamberi turned an unfortunate incident into a beautiful moment by writing a poetic message about love for his wife.
Olympians from across the globe have currently assembled in Paris with their eyes on striking gold in their respective competitions. But one Italian athlete lost something that was more precious to him than any medal. Italian high jumper and flag bearer Gianmarco Tamberi lost his wedding ring but what he did to make up for it is melting people's hearts online. Tamberi turned an unfortunate incident into a romantic moment by writing a poetic message expressing love for his wife. It was put up as a joint Instagram post on July 27 and he also made sure that he apologised to his wife Chiara Bontempi Tamberi.
The post was in Italian and he started by saying sorry to his wife before writing, "Too much water, too many kilos lost in the past few months, or maybe the uncontrollable enthusiasm of what we were doing. Probably all three things, the fact remains that I felt (the ring) slip away, I saw it fly…I followed (it) with a glance until I saw (it) bouncing inside the boat,” according to NBC Olympics. He went on to say that the moment when the ring bounced away felt like it "lasted an eternity."

After this, Tamberi spoke about how the ring would remain in the "city of love." “It will stay forever in the riverbed of the city of love, flown away while I tried to carry the Italian tricolor as high as possible during the opening ceremony of the most important sports evening in the world. If I had to invent an apology, I would never have been this imaginative," he wrote. He then mentioned that if Chiara wants she can also throw her ring into the river and use it as an excuse to renew their vows. "I think there might be a huge poetic side to yesterday’s misdeed, and if you want, we’ll throw yours into that river too so they’ll be together forever, and we’ll have one more excuse to like you’ve always asked, renew our vows and get married anew,” he concluded.
People in the comments were touched after reading the athlete's poem. @tommycassi commented, "This post gave me incredible motivation, I think I'm getting married soon." @annazatti__ wrote, "The art of resolution by Gianmarco Tamberi should be taught at school." @annacm_27 expressed, "It was an accident, and yet you have a sensitivity that is very rare to find nowadays. Chiara is really lucky." @luciheartmade said, "Legendary, turning a really unpleasant event into a declaration of love, it doesn't get more romantic." @giancarlobruss shared, "Gianmarco, a golden ring can be remade. The love for your wife is more important than a gold thread on your finger."

Tamberi is a three-time gold winner at the Olympics and in 2021, he shared his medal with his opponent. He was headed for a jump-off along with Qatari high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim. That's when a rules official agreed to Barshim's request if they both could share the gold medal. When the Italian high jumper was asked if he was fine with it, he screamed and hugged Barshim. He also ran around the stadium in Tokyo once after picking up the shell of an old cast inscribed, "Road to Tokyo 2021" before sobbing and rolling around on the track, according to the NBC Olympics.
