After Bridger jumped in front of a charging dog to save his sister's life, the entire Marvel clan banded together in appreciation of his bravery.
In an awesome gesture of appreciation, Iron Man (because who are we even kidding? Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man) sent Bridger Walker, the six-year-old superhero who saved his sister from a charging dog, a video promising him a gift better than Captain America's shield for his birthday. The actor also made sure to let the young boy know just how incredible his act of bravery was. In a clip that has now gone viral, Bridger is seen totally starstruck by the Marvel hero. Downey Jr. is only the latest Avenger to assemble in recognition of the courageous little boy.
"Bridger, you’re a rockstar," the actor says in the now-trending video. "My name’s Robert Downey Jr., I play ‘Tony,’ that makes me an old friend of Cap’s. I heard he sent a shield your way: I’m going to do one better. You call me on your next birthday, I got something special for you." As if he even had to introduce himself! Downey Jr. didn't reveal much about what the "something special" was—no, not even a hint—but he did say that a promise from Iron Man was way better than a shield. He continues, "By the way... That’s a promise; a promise beats a shield."
The video was edited to show Bridger's reaction as he watched the clip. Right after Iron Man's message ends, he looks to the camera and smiles the gorgeous, wide-eyed grin that everyone has seen in his viral photos. His mother Nicole Walker shared the sweet video to her Instagram, where she wrote, "I guess I should mention that we just celebrated Bridger’s birthday not too long ago, so it will be a while before we find out what the surprise is." And of course, people loved the whole thing. From Downey Jr.'s gesture to the adorable six-year-old's smile, the internet joined together in a chorus of awwwwws. One Instagram user commented, "Seeing that smile on his face at the end is so heart-warming." Indeed it is!
The Sherlock Holmes star was only the latest of the Avengers pack to make Bridger feel appreciated for his act of heroism. Chris Evans, who plays Captain America, sent an equally sweet video message to the young boy. "Hey, Bridger. Captain America here. How are you doing, buddy? So I read your story, saw what you did, and I'm sure you've heard a lot of this over the last couple of days but let me be the next one to tell you," he says in the clip. "Pal, you're a hero. What you did was so brave, so selfless—your sister is so lucky to have you as a big brother. Your parents must be so proud of you." Then, America's favorite superhero added that he would send him "an authentic Captain America shield because pal, you deserve it." Talk about the coolest birthday gift ever. In addition to Evans, Bridger received videos from Hugh Jackman, Zachary Levi, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, the Russo brothers, Robbie Amell, and Mark Ruffalo. He's pretty much an Avenger himself.
