Wide eyes and a gasp later, the celebrity was thrilled to learn that despite the unintentional mess-up, not all was lost.

Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt appeared in Tyrell Charles’ @theoiriesbyt podcast recently and had quite the conversation. In a clip shared shortly after the release of “Smashing Machine,” starring the duo, the host revealed how “The Rock” interrupted Charles’s first date with Marie Stella. Not quite something you’d expect to hear as a guest, right? But this seemingly awkward conversation soon took a wholesome turn when the man revealed that not all was lost, as he ended up marrying the woman and is proud to call her the love of his life.
Charles was in a solid conversation with Blunt and Johnson when he revealed he was having a “full circle moment.” He first mentioned that Johnson had “ruined” his first date. He recalled a time from years ago, when he was on a first date with Stella at Southbank. They were enjoying a pleasant talk and walk when the woman stopped him and said she had to hop on a Zoom call because she had a “meet and greet” with the actor. The duo was shocked. “No,” Johnson exclaimed. Charles continued, “So we stopped, we paused, and it was nice, you know. There we sat in the middle of Southbank, having this call.”
The actor was already feeling weirded out, sorry for unintentionally messing things up, hoping with a smile that there was more to the story. And there was. Charles happily revealed that years later, he and Stella are happily married. Right enough, he showed two pictures to Johnson, one of his wedding day with his bride and the other, a picture of Stella and Johnson from the time they met, a week after that date, pinned to this day on her Instagram. Stella, too, commented on the post, saying, “It’s the fact that you were playing with my rings throughout my whole call, and now we’re married.”
“I’m very happy you said you got married,” Blunt chimed in. The host mentioned how he had promised to bring up the story, and the “Fast and Furious” actor’s relieved smile gave away that he was finally at ease. “That’s cool, man, that’s cute,” he said. Charles proudly wrote in his caption that he and his wife still talk about the moment and have a chuckle. So a lot can go wrong on a first date, but how you handle it can even help right a lot of these wrongs. Many of us have had awkward first meetups, but like Charles, handling it with patience and respect can always work well. Unfortunately, young couples today don’t see it that way.
Data published by the Pew Research Center revealed that around 47% of U.S. young adults under the age of 30 are single. A majority noted that they’re not actively looking for a relationship for multiple reasons. Out of those who were, they have turned to dating apps. Speaking to Deseret News, professor at Stanford University, Michael Rosenfeld, who did a study on American singles and romance, found that dating seems a lot harder for younger generations. “Young people lost a few years of social experience, and that lost experience made all their interactions harder,” he explained.

But when all is said and done, there’s no better way to build relationships than to communicate and interact. And if that means messing up a little or having awkward moments as Charles and Stella did, so be it! “People do need companionship. We used to have even tougher dating environments, so I think people will find a way,” Rosenfeld hopefully noted. @_ezyyyy_ said, “The rock inspired you to get her a rock.” @melvinodoom added, “Love that! Great story!”
