In life, we have to learn to make compromises, communicate freely and yet be respectful to others. These are skills that help us live our lives well and maintain healthy relationships with people around us while also continuing peace of mind. But, we also need to learn to stand up for ourselves and speak up when it is due. Calling a spade a spade is a skill that many successful people have also mastered. And this same skill helped a Reddit user when she was name-called by her neighbour over using a vacuum cleaner "in the middle of the day." u/AdmirableAd1626 shared how her neighbour was furious about her vacuuming during the day and wrote, "I 22F have lived in my apartment complex for 4 years and I have an 8-year-old daughter."

She added, "My job allows me to work from home and as a bonus, when I don't have a lot of work to do, I can do my household chores such as laundry, vacuuming etc."  She also discussed how she and her neighbour can hear sounds in each other's houses. While she does not have a problem with her neighbor, her neighbour does not return the same behavior. Her neighbor moved into the area just 3 weeks ago. "But a couple of days ago, she knocked on my door as I was vacuuming, she was all smiles and happy but told me in the most condescending way that her husband had worked a late shift and their 12-month-old baby boy was sleeping and was wondering if I could not vacuum right now," said the user.

The neighbour told the woman that she would call her back and let her know when to start again but the user said no. After she refused, her neighbour started using harsh words for her and started commenting on her life choices as a young mother and then she stormed out of her apartment. As for the OP, she asked her friends if she was on the right side of things and her friends said that she could have been nicer about refusing. The OP had said that she was using the electrical appliance in the middle of the day and she will not stop doing it. When her friends did not support her, the woman took to Reddit to ask people, if she was an "a**hole" for turning down her neighbour's request.

The post has gone viral with almost 9K upvotes on it. People were quick to support the woman and drop comments on her post, as well. u/BunBunMamaCA wrote, "NTA, I work the overnight shift and understand others in my building don't. Instead of expecting them to put their daily lives on hold I bought a white noise machine and got some amazing silicone earplugs. You're not vacuuming at an unreasonable time." u/lightbarnacle425 commented, "Yeah, I also work night shift and don't expect the people around me to cater to my need for sleep just because I choose to work nights." u/oldmention9632 wrote, "And it's better if babies learn to sleep with noise. The families who keep their homes silent when the baby naps are in for a lot of trouble when that second baby comes along. Also, vacuums are useful white noise."
