In today's date, inflation is causing people to spend more money than they usually did about a decade ago. Leading a simple lifestyle, surviving from paycheck to paycheck and budgeting is still not enough to live a carefree and comfortable life. Rising costs of everyday goods and services are prompting people to take up multiple jobs so they can ensure their financial security. But @shayjo21 has made up her mind about not working more than one job no matter how expensive things get.

In a viral video posted by Shay, she expresses her frustrations over the skyrocketing price of basic necessities and why she is not interested in destroying her work-life balance just to make more money from multiple jobs. The clip which has hit 1 million views so far, features Shay filming herself while sharing about the prices of edibles available in the market. Shay reveals how grapes cost $7, eggs are $5 and used cars are on sale for $40,000. But she is determined not to sacrifice her life by working more jobs so she can afford these items.

"One thing I do wanna say is, I don’t give a damn how expensive it gets, I’m not working a second job. Y’all not about to have me out here working twice," she said in the video. "5:31 legs start buckling, knees going. 6 o’clock, my vision is blurry, can’t find my car. Okay, I can’t work two jobs. So whoever needs to fix it, please fix it." Shay interestingly captioned her video which read: " $100,000 a year is the new $50,000 a year," alongside the hashtag #fixitjesus. She concludes the video by stating how working for 40 hours a week isn't enough anymore all thanks to the absurd rise in the cost of living.

According to The Guardian, a study from the Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed that more than 400,000 Americans work two full-time jobs. In September 2022, 4.9% of all the more than 164 million US workers held two or more job positions, over 7.7 million workers. Things have gone from worse to worst as some people have even sold their blood in exchange for money, per the outlet. A 31-year-old woman named Cashe Lewis from Denver, Colorado told the outlet that she is currently trying to find a third job to handle a $200 hike in her monthly rent. "I’m exhausted all the time," said Lewis. "On the one day, I have off a week, I donate plasma for extra money. I’m literally selling my blood to eat because I have no choice."

Fellow TikTok users could relate to her rant in the comment section. @caylaleilani wrote: "Clocking out then having to clock in somewhere else 30 minutes later is crazy." @brucewaynebanner wrote in support too: "We shouldn’t have to work 2-3 jobs to be able to afford life for one person." @addimfbaddie commented: "Exactly I rather budget what I got. I'm not picking up more work." @renegadeg43 added: "40 hours a week ain’t been enough for a good while. That’s how they trick you into overtime because a regular hours check ain’t getting nothing done." At the end of the day, everyone is simply hoping that the economy of their country is stable enough to ensure people's survival with a single job.
