The prank was successful because not many knew that the brother had a twin

Having an identical twin can make for some easy confusion, but one man took it a step further with a prank that left his brother’s friends completely baffled. In a now-deleted Reddit post reshared on X by @nocontextmemes on April 15, u/jablva shared a hilarious prank he played on his twin brother's friends. The author was visiting his identical twin in college, and the prank worked because not many knew that the brother had a twin. The only difference between the two brothers is that the author has no beard, and the brother has facial hair. They decided to use this difference to play the prank.
During his visit, the brother had friends over at his apartment for a party, and the author decided to stay and hide in the bedroom. In the middle of the party, the brother stood up and said that he was tired of his beard and was going to shave it. He went inside and exchanged clothes with the author so the friends would not suspect anything. Then, the beardless author walked into the room where his brother's friends were. Shaving one's beard in the middle of a party is a strange thing to do, but nobody really questioned it.

This was when things got hilarious. After a while, the author announced that he actually missed his beard and was going back to his bedroom to grow it. He went in, the twins exchanged clothes again, and the brother with the beard came out. Everyone in the room was shocked by how he grew back his beard in a matter of minutes. The author did not mention whether they revealed the prank to their friends or kept it a funny secret.

The reason why the identical twins were able to pull off a prank like this is because of how similar they looked. According to MedlinePlus, identical twins share nearly 100% of their DNA, which often makes them almost indistinguishable in appearance. Studies show that people often struggle to tell identical twins apart, because recognition accuracy can drop from nearly 97% for unrelated faces to as low as 65% when comparing twins, especially from different angles.

People on X thought the story was hilarious. Some shared their own twin stories, while others wished they had a twin so they could play pranks on people as well. @Thundereagle405 commented, "Having an identical twin is the closest a human can come to having a superpower. If you have a twin, how are you not spending your entire life f*cking with people?" @GnoticerSheep shared, "I’m a twin! A guy bet me $40 if I ate an entire large pizza (it was humongous), and I finished more than half of it looked at my twin across the table, went to the bathroom, switched shirts, and my twin finished the rest."
