As the couple began their European trip in Iceland, the boyfriend wanted to do a TikTok trend at the places they visited. But he had a special secret.
We live in a time where travel isn't just about admiring the destinations. It's also about keeping up with social media trends and making one's travel a viral spectacle. From dance-offs at iconic landmarks to quirky food challenges, capturing Insta-worthy or TikTok-worthy videos is now essential for getting those likes and comments. So, when her boyfriend wanted to do a TikTok trend during their trip to Iceland, Paige Lancelot, a Canadian travel influencer who goes by @paigelancelot on TikTok, believed him. But soon, the truth was revealed and the internet couldn't stop gushing over it.
Lancelot and her boyfriend, Brando embarked on an adventurous trip across Europe earlier this September. Their trip started in Iceland and spanned several European countries for over a month. In Iceland, Brando wanted to do a TikTok trend in every scenic place the couple visited. As part of the trend, Brando carries Lancelot on his shoulder and drops her on the ground as if he had delivered her to that place. Then as his girlfriend faces away from him, he taps her shoulder and shows her the scenery. Lancelot would delightfully throw her hands up in the air at the incredible sight and then, her boyfriend picks her up on his shoulders again.
The adorable pair repeated the same gesture in several stunning places including dreamy waterfalls, the beach, a lighthouse and a cliffside. But while visiting one particular waterfall with greenery all around the place, Brando decided to give his girlfriend the surprise of a lifetime. As he dropped her on the ground and she turned away from him, Brando went down on one knee and said something to Lancelot that made her turn around. He then mouthed, "Will you marry me?" and the girlfriend couldn't believe her eyes. With laughter and excitement taking up the moment, Lancelot said, "Yes," and the couple got happily engaged.
"Brando showed me how icey Iceland really got," the soon-to-be bride quipped in the caption. The video went viral with over eight million views in less than a month and people were swooning over this proposal. "The way I couldn’t tell which one was going to be the proposal site because they’re all so beautiful," said @laylabelle19_27. "Ok, but it’s even more cute cause the waterfall he proposed in front of is called Dynjandi and is known as the bridal veil falls," pointed out @wildsumac. "The way you raise your arms like a Sims character has me cackling. Seriously though, this is so sweet and creative, congrats!" chimed in @rebejope.

Speaking of her boyfriend's creative proposal, Lancelot explained in a follow-up video that she'd secretly hoped that he would propose. But she had no clue that it would be the way he did it. Calling the video trend prank a good "decoy," the woman mentioned that she didn't want to get her hopes up but tried to lure information from him about whether he had ideas to propose. She said that Brando was quite set on doing the TikTok trend and added that she didn't even focus much on dressing up due to Iceland's weather. Knowing Lancelot was yearning to see that particular waterfall, Brando picked that point to propose. While she usually turns around when he taps her shoulder in the TikTok trend, this time she turned around because he called her full name, "Paige Alexandra Lancelot," and then a dreamy proposal ensued.
