One fan decided to find out which date Ice Cube was referring to in his song, 'It Was a Good Day.'
Remember the iconic song, "It Was a Good Day," by American rapper, songwriter, and actor Ice Cube? While the whole world to date appreciates the 1993 melody for its infectious beats and timeless appeal, Garrett Lee (@garrettlee496 on TikTok) decided to find out what day Ice Cube was actually referring to in the song from his album, The Predator. After spending a completely sleepless night wondering what the actor-rapper possibly meant, Lee went on Google and began his research on the classic song.
Lee shared screenshots of clues that eventually led him to discover the long-hidden secret. The first clue from the pop song read: "Went to Short Dog's house, they was watchin' Yo! MTV Raps." Notably, "Yo! MTV Raps," the popular American television show, first aired on August 6, 1988, "So we know it's a day after that day," Lee shared with his audience. Furthermore, the second clue was the day, Ice Cube released "It Was a Good Day," which was, February 23, 1993. "Clue 3 is obviously a big one because he says, 'The Lakers beat the Supersonics.'"
"First of all, rest in peace to the Supersonics. Anyway, dates between Yo! MTV Raps' first air date and the release of the single when the Lakers beat the Supersonics. We have got all the dates here, so we know it is one of these dates," Lee said, sharing the possible dates on the screen.
Furthermore, the content creator moved to the fourth clue, which revealed, "Dates of those Laker wins over Supersonics when it was a clear day with no smog." Lee shared that the four major clues helped him narrow it down to four possible dates that Ice Cube was talking about.
"'Got a beep from Kim and she can f*** all night.' Beepers weren't adopted by mobile phone companies until the 1990s. The dates when mobile beepers were available to the public were January 18, 1991, and January 20, 1992," read the fifth clue on the screen.

Finally, Lee revealed the sixth clue: Ice Cube's film, "Boyz in the Hood," discussing where it all came together. He talked about the duration when the movie was being filmed and how Ice Cube would have been too busy to do anything mentioned in the song. "So that only leaves one day where all of this happened: January 20, 1992. Great day! And now we can all go to sleep at night knowing Ice Cube was playing basketball on January 20, 1992," Lee concluded.
Meanwhile, reacting to the video, @heathafeatha17 commented, "I want Ice Cube to see this! I love that you broke it down for us. Not bashing you at all! Never when I listened to this song did I think about it." @antifawombat commented, "Thanks bro, I have stopped counting how many days I've been awake trying to figure this shit out." @laqueen1227 wrote, "I absolutely love this video with all your research!! Lol. Thanks for giving me info that I never knew I needed." @hpse2122 commented, "Whatever gene this research approach is connected to... clearly means you are my long-lost twin." @m0thelibra commented, "The fact that it was a Monday is mindblowing. This man had a good day on a Monday." @sunflower.love.jess87 asked in the comments, "Have we confirmed this with Mr. Ice?"
