A couple appeared on a reality television show to resolve long-standing relationship issues. In a series of videos starting October 1, a woman named Ashley explained how a trail of clues led her to doubt her husband's infidelity. The mistrust began with the smudge of a pink lipstick on a bottle she found in his car. When she confronted him, he tried to dodge her, saying it could be hers. His excuse, however, immediately backfired. Knowing she'd never worn a pink lipstick, Ashley began to suspect something was seriously wrong. She shared her story in an episode of Divorce Court (@DivorceCourt) Season 28, powered by Star Jones, which has since been viewed more than 2.4 million times.

A shady smudge

Ashley said that since she had her own car, she rarely travelled with her husband, Mr. Zane Copeland, unless they were on a date. On one such occasion, she was looking for her sunglasses in his car when she noticed a water bottle on the passenger side. Ashley was about to throw the bottle out when a pink lipstick mark caught her attention. At first, Mr. Copeland tried to excuse the stain by saying it could be Ashley's or his friend's girlfriend. "This man's been with me for years. He has never seen me put on no pink lip, not ever. He's talking about, 'Oh, it could have been yours,'" she recounted.

A second red flag

This didn’t end there. In a part 2 video of the episode, Ashley explained the other time when she and Mr. Copeland were riding in his car. She accidentally dropped her phone. While she was digging down and rummaging through the car to get the phone, she found something she hadn’t expected: an earring. She was especially surprised because she never wears gold earrings, and she was sure the gold hoop she found wasn't hers. Mr. Copeland tried to excuse himself, saying it could be his sister's, his mom's, or his daughter's, who has tons of different earrings.

Caught in the act

In another scenario, as Ashley described in the part 3 video, Mr. Copeland took her to a club and introduced her to a female friend. Ashley thought that she already knew all of his female friends, but the way he was introducing this one seemed a bit off to her. He was overly enthusiastic about her massage services. After a couple of drinks, Ashley noticed the woman touching her husband inappropriately. While she protested, he hauled her out of the club. On the show, Mr. Copeland excused that moment by playing the victim and saying that the woman was assaulting him. But according to Ashley’s account, he never rebelled or said a word that day in the club, which is contrary to his argument.

Mr. Copeland even suggested he find a "sister wife" for Ashley, as she revealed in part 4 of the episode. He excused himself, saying that Ashley was mostly overworked and burnt out, so he just gave it a thought to find someone who fit his swag. As a witness, he presented a colleague named Brittany, who confessed to having a friendly relationship with Mr. Copeland but refused to answer whether they had any sexual relationship. The woman said he made her sign an NDA so she couldn't reveal any further details about their relationship.

Cheater busted

A survey by DatingAdvice found that, like Mr. Copeland, nearly 20% of cheaters are caught in the act. It is usually physical clues like the pink lipstick and gold earring in the car that lead their partners to their infidelity. The survey also found that cheating has unfortunately become very common, with 83% of people having been in infidelity. However, like Ashley, only 34% of the millennials confront their partners about cheating suspicions, while 26% voluntarily confess to having affairs.

Viewers jumped in to say that it wasn’t just her husband’s innocent explanation; it was also a clue to his infidelity. @mariam. arafaaa said, “He thinks she was born yesterday,” with laughter emojis. @baby_dolldeedee speculated, “Even if his friends did have a female with them… why would she be in the passenger seat upfront?”
