He was eating donuts while she was home, starving, and waiting for him

Some people believe managing kids alone is easy. In fact, most people with stay-at-home spouses take their partners for granted and expect them to cater to their needs the moment they walk through the door. A woman from Mexico (u/substantial_home_713) experienced just that when she asked her husband to bring groceries. Well, her husband was supposed to be home from work by 8 pm. However, when she called him, 30 minutes past his expected arrival time, he was still at work, but surprisingly, not working. In fact, he was shamelessly enjoying his donuts with colleagues while his wife was home, starving, and waiting for him to return. The situation escalated when the husband finally reached home without the groceries, expecting dinner, but his wife refused to cook. In the afternoon, the author asked her husband to get some groceries for dinner. At the time, he agreed but later said he would stop by the store on his way home that evening. The husband was supposed to return home by 8; however, when he didn't arrive even by 8:30, the author FaceTimed him. Apparently, "he’s still at work, laughing with his coworkers, eating a donut," the woman explained. Confused, she asked why he was hanging out at work if he was not actually working, and he told her he'd be home soon. Tired and hungry after spending 12 hours with the kids, the author eventually fed them and put them to bed all alone. Despite being exhausted, she was still waiting for her husband to return home with groceries so she could make dinner.

The author's husband finally got home at 9:30 p.m. but had forgotten to bring the ingredients she had asked for. After hours of waiting, he dared to be angry at her for not cooking him dinner. The woman wrote, "I showered, and now I’m in bed; dinner-less because we don’t have groceries." Even though she wanted to make dinner, she couldn't because she had used the last of the groceries for the kids. The problem was that they moved to Mexico after his deportation, and since she wasn't fluent in Spanish, she had to depend on her husband for grocery runs. "He’s in control of the money. I didn’t have the pesos to go, either way," the author added.
After a long day with the kids, the author just wanted to relax and have a good dinner with her husband. However, she couldn't even do that because he forgot to stop by the store to get what she asked for. A 2016 Pew Research Center survey found that one of the keys to a successful marriage was sharing household chores (56%), which seemed to be the real issue behind the dinner dispute between the author and her husband. The study also found that 41% of American parents believed mothers did more household chores, while 50% believed they were shared equally. Meanwhile, 50% of moms agreed that they did more, and 32% of fathers agreed.

Netizens advised the author to break the marriage and leave the country if possible. u/GCU_ZeroCredibility commented, "You have much bigger problems than dinner. Come back to whichever country you are from. Is it America? Come back to America. This guy is no good. (NTA)." u/Gertrudethecurious added, "I'm more concerned that you are financially reliant on a man in a foreign country. That doesn't seem like a good plan."
