Deaf woman gets a pleasant surprise from husband just before Christmas and the internet is thrilled for her.
Technology has revolutionized the way we live, but its impact is especially profound for people with disabilities. A heartwarming example of this can be seen in a viral Instagram video shared by Oscar, known as @that.deaf.dad.
In the video, the husband is excitedly handing over a wrapped preset to his deaf wife after she enters the car. "I have a surprise for you," he signed in ASL. "Open it and you will see what it is," he added. "It's too early," the wife signed in ASL before asking what the gift was for. "I'd rather you find out," the husband signed. "I don't have a gift for you," the wife signed to which the husband signed back, "That's fine."
The wife then opens the present to find that her husband had gotten her Hearview glasses which means she can now hear whatever people say.
"I see them on social media and always wanted one," the wife signed in ASL. "I'm excited for you to use it," the husband replied. The woman then wears the glasses and instantly catches on to what her husband is saying. "Yeah, you said, 'Can you hear me now?'" she signed. "I thought it would pick up Jabez's babbling," he signed referring to their child in the backseat. "Are you ready to go out and use it," the husband asked, to which she replied "Yes!"
Hearview glasses use AI-powered speech recognition to accurately capture voices with minimal latency, displaying subtitles in real time. This innovative technology allows users to bridge communication gaps seamlessly. Viewers in the comments were thrilled to see her communicating without relying on ASL.
"Oh god who makes this technology deserve heaven," wrote @safinapakef. "[I] think all deaf people should get it for free," added @leonard_vinci.
Others talk about the price, adding that it should be made affordable. "Jesus, $2,000 is absolutely nuts for glasses that create live subtitles. [I] really wanted to get this for my mom/dad because they are both deaf but that price is bonkers," @notime4lies1997.
"I love this!!!! Such a thoughtful gift. I am hard of hearing and I wear this, and anything that can make communication with hearing people easier is such a gift," added @iamshlondabee.
The ability to communicate without sign language is a dream that many deaf individuals may find elusive. In another moving story, Andrea Diaz, a patient at the Mississippi Medical Centre, experienced overwhelming emotions when she heard for the very first time in her life. What happened after this special moment was even more heartwarming. Andrea was with her audiologist, Dr. Vicki Gonzales, her mother, and her partner, Kevin Peakman, when her implant was being turned on for the first time. Immediately, after she heard her love say, "I love you so much and you're my best friend, baby. I wanted to make the first thing you hear me asking you to marry me." The romantic act was recorded by Dr. Gonzales, which later went viral on the internet.
