Couple ignored late-night salespeople until one tried knocking at 9:30 p.m. while their toddler slept. They didn’t know Dad was waiting outside

Sarah Beth Brooks (@sbbrooks2911), a stay-at-home mom from Texas, took to TikTok on July 18, 2026, to share a clip of her husband confronting a late-night salesperson. For days, the couple had been frustrated with salespeople showing up at their place quite late at night, disturbing their one-and-a-half-year-old son's sleep. One night, however, Brooks' husband finally decided to address the issue once and for all. The doorbell camera captured his heated confrontation, which Brooks later shared online. The video unexpectedly went viral, receiving over 9 million views on her page. 

Dad mode: activated

Brooks captioned the video, "As if I needed another reason to be attracted to this man." Well, the security camera captured her husband coming out of their house to talk to one of the security salespeople who was about to knock on their door at 9:30 p.m. Upon seeing him, the solicitor said, "How's it going?" and immediately followed it with, "I know it's late." Angry, Brooks' husband responded, "Yeah dude, that's not an excuse. It's 9:30 at night, and my one-and-a-half-year-old is asleep. For you to ring my doorbell? Brother, you had something coming. That's ridiculous."

The late-night knock saga

"Not wanting them to wake our son, my husband went outside to meet them before they had a chance to knock," Brooks said. When she shared the video online, she had no idea it would gain so much traction. However, the overwhelming response left her stunned. Brooks explained that door-to-door salespeople were not uncommon where they lived, but it was strange they worked so late. In fact, she shared with PEOPLE that their best friends who lived next door had already warned them about solicitors coming to their house. And that's how Brooks' husband managed to confront them.

Meanwhile, Brooks also confessed that many of their neighbors had already posted in their community Facebook group saying solicitors had been knocking on doors quite late at night. "I don’t believe anyone should be knocking on residential doors at 9:30 at night, especially when families may have young children asleep or simply expect privacy late in the evening," she explained.

The bedtime battle is real

Putting kids, especially toddlers, to sleep is already quite challenging. In fact, a 2024 Mott Poll revealed that 27% of parents admitted getting their children to go to sleep is extremely difficult. While more than half (65%) said their kids resist bedtime in favor of playing, 43% reported that noise from other rooms makes it difficult for their kids to fall asleep. Brooks and her husband may have also faced similar challenges putting their son to sleep at night, which was why it was frustrating when salesmen came knocking or ringing their doorbell late at night. 

'5 pm is the latest appropriate time for solicitors'

Netizens found the interaction between Brooks' husband and the solicitor funny. But several expressed how door-to-door salespeople are getting out of hand. @hebrews_da_gainz wrote, "My rule of thumb. If your company's customer service cannot be reached past 5, then you better not be on my porch after 5 either. 5 pm is the latest 'appropriate' time for solicitors." @burntoutbrother commented, "'I know it’s late.' You already know what you’re doing is wrong."
