Recycling is not just great for the environment and saving money. It can also bring happiness, as u/marabsky discovered. This homeowner wrote about a unique delivery they received on Reddit. The letter was not in standard white envelopes and came from a local environmental group. The envelopes were handmade by the group's volunteers using used calendars. "Nice no waste envelopes," the homeowner captioned their post. "I thought it was very awesome," they wrote in the post while also uploading a picture showing the envelope with a sticker. The sticker says, "JUST FOR YOU. This envelope is made from our retired calendars, cut and glued by dedicated Wilderness Committee volunteers."

Since calendars are only useful for a single year, saving them can be difficult. Nevertheless, some creative people have discovered an innovative way to make calendars reusable in the future. These "recycled calendars" sell for $4 in the market, according to the Wilderness Committee's website. People on Reddit were quite amazed by these envelopes and praised the recycling initiative.

u/WhyTrashEarth said, "This is a great idea for retired calendars!!! The only thing I could ever think of was to have 7 different calendars for each day of the week... I have so many old calendars, I wonder if I could donate to some group one day." u/Swift-Tee commented, "Great reuse! Not as good as printing the number of calendars you need, but the next best thing." u/camh- added, "The 'repurpose' part of the 5 Rs: reduce, reuse, repair, repurpose, recycle. But you can also reuse calendars - there are only 14 of them, two for each day of the week, one with leap years and one without."

The majority of Americans prefer sustainable brands and products and are willing to spend extra for such a choice, according to the survey data from The Recycling Partnership and SWNS. People who took part in the survey wanted to do more from their end to address waste and climate impacts and look for those companies supporting the cause. Not only that but also, 8 in 10 believe that every product on their shelves should be 100% sustainable in the next 10 years. 56% of Americans recycle because they want the world to be livable for future generations. 49% recycle to preserve natural resources, 47% believe in reducing carbon emissions due to their efforts and 47% recycle to minimize accumulation in landfills.

Seven billion tonnes of plastic garbage are produced worldwide annually, of which only ten percent are recycled, per UNEP. Amid these difficulties, a dog named Scruff is having a big influence. Known as "the eco dog," this 13-year-old border collie has been walking his regular walks and cleaning the streets. After being adopted in 2009, Scruff used to play with sticks until his pet parents, David and Yvonne, taught him to collect plastic bottles instead. With the hashtag #scruffsbottlepatrol on social media, Scruff has collected almost 1,000 bottles since 2021. Scruff has been hailed as an "eco-hero" by the community, and his actions have won praise from many. His owners want to emphasize the value of environmental and community responsibility by recycling the bottles they have gathered regularly. As David aptly puts it, "If a dog can do it, anyone can."
