Holiday-loving Grandma says final goodbyes to family and surprises them one last time with a beautiful note

Grandchildren share a special relationship with their grandparents because of their unconditional love, wisdom, and consistent support. But not everyone is lucky enough to have their comforting presence around them. This was the case for a family during this year’s festive season, as they lost one of their dearest family members. To heal their wounds, the late great-grandmother left a touching gift as a parting memory. Another family member, who goes by u/giggaloser on Reddit, shared a glimpse of the heartfelt gesture extended by their late great-grandmother a year after her passing. Their post, shedding light on the elderly woman’s final goodbye in the most profound way, touched thousands of hearts online.

In a widely circulating post, the grandchild opened up about the special surprise from their great-grandmom, revealing the picture of the gift. It showed a $100 bill neatly wrapped with a red ribbon inside a transparent plastic bag, along with a note. The sweet gesture she left for her great-grandchild and the whole family demonstrated that the elderly woman knew her time was running out. “My grandmother got to say her final goodbyes,” the great-grandchild wrote, adding that two of their great-grandmothers passed away in 2023. Of the two elderly ladies, one happened to be the “Christmas Specialist.” Before her passing, the woman passionately celebrated the festive season by inviting all her family together under one roof.

“We always had the biggest Christmases at her beautiful, expensive home. Not a dime was spared on anybody!” the post added. Every family member who could attend made their presence felt at these traditional yet grand celebrations. “Everyone in the family who could was always there,” the great-grandchild said, expressing that the celebrations were not the same last year. Following the demise of their great-grandmom, whom they fondly referred to as “grandmommy,” the family did not get the chance to feel the same good old vibes. The post explained: “She (grandmommy) passed away in a hospital last year. But apparently, she worked on Christmas year-round.”

Apparently, before her final moments, the great-grandmom left loads of money around her house. She told her daughter (NeNe) about it, the post claimed further. “NeNe” later told the family how “grandmommy” used to hide money around the house for Christmas, wanting it to be shared with them after she was gone.

“She told NeNe that if anything happened to her, to give the money to the people for Christmas Eve,” the post added. Notably, the great-grandmom known as the “Christmas Specialist” had followed a similar tradition of giving out $100 every festive season during her lifetime. “Normally, we received about $100 from grandmommy each year, which was fairly typical and not particularly extraordinary—or so it seemed,” the grandchild wrote, suggesting this year was different.

“This year, it sounded like she knew her time was up when she wrote them before she died,” they added. But the big change this year was that “(the elderly woman) wrote some of the most powerful words on a little piece of paper rolled up inside the $100 bill- 'Love grandmommy.'" Their emotional post managed to garner widespread attention on social media, including 1.4k upvotes. Among the reactions, u/Basiedit recalled, “I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother's passing.
