A travel influencer gained traction after posting her quirky journey through Colombia’s tiny Hacaritama Airport, showcasing its minimalistic and cozy atmosphere.
Airports don’t get much more cozy than this. One of the world’s tiniest airports has been revealed, tucked away in Aguachica, Colombia. A travel influencer has gained traction for sharing her unique experience at one of the smallest airports in the world. Rosy Palma, known on TikTok as @travelercolombia with 76,800 followers, recently shared her quirky journey through this unique airport and took her followers along for the day as she passed through Colombia’s tiny Hacaritama Airport. The video has been translated from Spanish to English here to reach a wider audience.
Hacaritama Airport is so small, there isn’t even room for a proper scanning machine. With just two waiting areas—one for arriving and one for manually checking luggage—it’s a travel experience unlike any other. Instead of the usual conveyor belts, you’re handed a ticket to claim your bag at your destination, which might make anxious travelers a bit uneasy. And if you need to wait, there’s a spot under a mango tree.
She decided to do an airport tour which kicks off with Palma walking up to a tree providing shade for a row of seats set in the dirt—this is the first waiting area. In this open-air space, there’s also a table selling Colombian pastries and snacks, adding a local touch to the experience. Guests are then guided to the small indoor waiting area, where they check their own luggage and receive a ticket before being ushered back outside.
“Here I have my hand luggage and over here you can see the other passengers waiting to be called to enter the second waiting room," Palma says in her video, narrating the scene. On the other side is the runway for the planes. And the passengers who arrived late queuing in the sun." As boarding time nears, Palma eventually heads into the indoor waiting area.
Palma pointed out, "Here I have my hand luggage and over here you can see the other passengers waiting to be called to enter the second waiting room. On the other side is the runway for the planes. And the passengers who arrived late queuing in the sun. This is the second lounge you enter when you are about to board."
She also mentioned that before entering, there’s another manual check of the hand luggage. "There is only one toilet for men and one for women," she observed. "It's quite spacious and clean. It's a good amount because the planes only carry 48 passengers. Here I found a spider in the bathroom."
As she prepared to board, Palma noted the importance of arriving early. While the plane itself felt smaller, the seats were comfortable, and overall, she found the experience to be top-notch. Since sharing her adventure, the video has racked up 172,000 likes and 2,900 comments.
"You're right, it's the coolest airport in the world. The simplest things are the most beautiful," commented @rodrigosalamanca96. "The plane looks like it's from the 1800s hahahahaha but the waiting room is nice, excellent snacks," added @jesus.payares8. @arianny.tenorio humorously said, "And if there are mangoes on the tree, are they included in the price of the flight or are they paid for separately?" @martinbaquero2019 shared her experience too saying, "It's a great airport, everything is true, the fries and pork rinds are very tasty."
