Her best friend caught her boyfriend holding hands with another girl at a bar while she was in Italy. His excuse made it even worse

Sarai Jones (@krazysarai) was in Positano, Italy, when she received a phone call that made her get up and frantically pace back and forth on Airbnb's balcony. The woman on the other end was Marissa, her best friend, who had seen her boyfriend holding hands with another woman in a Seattle bar. On September 2, 2026, Jones took to TikTok to share how her friend caught her partner openly cheating on her while she'd left the city only four days ago. But what made the situation worse was how her boyfriend reacted when she confronted him on a call. The video has received 458,000 views.

Catching him red-handed

Only four days into Jones' Italy vacation, when Marissa called her at around 2 am in the midnight. As soon as she picked up, she found her best friend crying. Worried, Jones asked if she was okay. "I don't know if I should tell you this. Like you're in Italy right now. I don't want to ruin your trip," Marissa said. However, she eventually told Jones that she caught her boyfriend with another woman at the Cowgirls bar. The man, whom Jones referred to as the “Urgent Care Guy,” was apparently holding hands with a stranger. Shocked, Marissa immediately confronted the couple. While Jones' boyfriend denied any romantic involvement, his mistress confirmed they kissed.

The surprising excuse

Feeling dejected, Jones immediately dialled the “Urgent Care Guy” to confront him. At first, he denied the kissing and said they were only holding hands because the bar was too crowded. Jones, however, didn't fall for it, as Marissa had shared videos and pictures of inside the bar with her, and it was anything but crowded. Things got weird when the man said Marissa had just caught him at a bad time and that there was nothing wrong with holding hands. "And I'm like, no, this was perfect timing," Jones said

A red flag in disguise

Jones had always considered this “Urgent care guy” a green flag until his infidelity came to light. In June 2026, she recalled how he helped her after a wild night. Jones said it was one of their initial dates where she got drunk after a few drinks. In fact, while visiting the restroom, she noticed that her urine was pink and red in color. Her mom, who was babysitting her kid, couldn’t drive her to the hospital, and she was too boozed out to do it herself. So Jones called her boyfriend, who drove her to the hospital and stayed by her side. Seeing his diligence and commitment, the nurses described her as a "big green flag."

Jones’s experience is exactly what millions of people face each day. According to the statistics cited by the Try Amora couples app, cheating rates are higher in dating relationships than marriages, with 35% to 40% admitting to cheating while dating. In her case, the infidelity was caught by the best friend, but according to the Body+Soul 2024 Sex Census, only 4% of the cheating partners are caught red-handed. Once they do, it is challenging to get them to confess their unfaithfulness. “It’s a hard thing to approach a partner with because when you get caught, or something happens, people generally go into defensive mode, and that doesn't lead to people being honest,” sex and relationship therapist Lara Maree explained to Body+Soul.

Meanwhile, reacting to Jones' story, @r.cordova23 commented, “Every girl needs a friend like Marissa!” Similarly, @cynahum5 said, “You were in Italy living your best life & he’s a cheater. All I see is the real winner here!”
