Man left wife with their teen, 4 pets and chickens while taking oldest son on a 2-week vacation. His first demand upon returning made her snap

A smooth-running family requires teamwork and divided responsibilities. However, a woman who goes by u/specific-person-53 on Reddit experienced just the opposite when her husband planned a two-week trip with their elder son, leaving her and their other son behind. While he was away on his hunting adventure, his wife was left to manage the household all alone. The situation spiraled when, upon returning, the man demanded she help him unpack his suitcase. The woman shared her story on August 22, 2026. The post has received over 2,000 upvotes.

No invite, no help

The author's husband and her oldest son planned a hunting trip without including her or their other son. "We were never invited, nor was it suggested we could go do something as a family," she explained. In fact, her husband planned the two-week trip at a time he knew their younger son couldn't join because of his sports schedule. The author was angry because she had to manage everything at home, alone. She even had to drive her son to his sports practices and feed and care for their two dogs, two cats, and several chickens. She also had to water the plants outside. 

However, after he returned, he didn't appreciate her. Rather, he was upset when his wife refused to help him unpack. "He is pissed I am not helping unload," she wrote. The author added that he could've asked their oldest son, who went on the trip with him, for help, but he didn't, which infuriated her more.  

A shocking trend

The author did not reveal her age or her generation, but a study by King's College London found disturbing views among Gen Z males. The survey, as cited by our own report, found that 31% of Gen Z men believed a wife should always obey her husband. Similarly, 33% said a husband must take the final call in all important matters in life. In the case of the author, despite doing all the extra work the last two weeks, she was expected to help him unpack all his hunting gear because he asked her to.

Meanwhile, another study from Catalyst found that 455,000 women left the workforce between January and August of 2025. When researchers looked at the reasons, 42% quit their jobs because they had caregiving responsibilities. Reflecting on the author's case, she had to run her home, take her son to practice, and care for the plants and animals, all while her husband was out hunting for two weeks. When he came back home, he expected her to add another task to her already long list.

'Entitled husband'

Meanwhile, people in the comment section supported the author and called out her husband. For example, u/MidwestNightgirl wrote, "NTA. I think it’s time to book a cruise for yourself and your son." u/Short-Isopod-6086 commented, "Oh God, no. He packed it. He can unpack it. That's part of a trip."
