He promised his late wife he would 'take' her to their grandson's wedding — and kept his promise

'Excuse me, do you mind if my wife Betty comes in the photograph?'

Vows in a wedding are like hands in a glove. Two people stand in front of each other, and willingly feel, write, and articulate their promises to each other. While making up a promise is easy, keeping it could be hard for some. In a sentimental video posted by @photographybyjamesmorris on Instagram, the groom’s grandfather showed everybody the true value of promises by fulfilling one he'd made to his late wife. According to the National Library of Medical Sciences, promises are crucial for human growth as they allow people to enter into voluntary commitments to keep their word in the future.

Married for 63 years, Les lost Betty in 2020. He kept his word and fulfilled his commitment by laminating a photo of her in a beautiful dress and keeping it in the top pocket. He very cautiously pulled the photograph out during special moments at his grandson's wedding, like the ceremony and the photo session. For the videographer, James, this was the first wedding after his 5-month break. “The day was incredible from start to finish, I loved the big creative moments with the couple and the laughs along the way," said James in a Facebook post.

He shared that they were setting up the groups and moving quite quickly as the weather was about to change. The couple stepped in to have a photograph with Les, “We didn't get too wet, as I was about to shape up to take the shot,” James shared. The very next moment, the groom’s granddad very politely asked the photographer, "Excuse me, do you mind if my wife (Betty) comes in the photograph?”

As he turned back, Les reached into his top pocket and took out a photograph of Betty, who was in a wonderful outfit, as seen in the video. “At that moment, I was a little taken aback and felt super honoured to be part of that heartfelt moment, all while trying not to break down and cry,” wrote James. During the ceremony, I saw Les sitting by himself. So grabbed a shot of him as I do with most guests at weddings," he continued.

"It wasn't till I got back home to edit the gallery that I came across the second image of Les NOT sitting alone, but sitting with Betty. This is real love. True love. A once-in-a-lifetime love,” penned James in the post. Viewers couldn't resist their emotions, "Beautiful. I took my mother & father to my son's wedding in a picture, also, as I knew they both would have wanted to be there for his special day heartwarming. Congratulations to the bride and groom, many years of happiness, love, and making special memories together," shared @patriciabuglass. "This is love in all its most complicated and simplest forms," wrote @a_cabin_a_garden_a_pond.

Another user, @la.lostgirl, commented, "Love how he brought the picture of her all dressed up as she would for this wedding," To one, the story reminded them of a sister they'd lost. "My brother just lost his wife in January. She was the closest thing I had to a sister; I cry all the time because I miss her so much, but I cry even more thinking that if I miss her this much I can’t imagine how my bother feels... I just wanna know when it’ll get easier," lamented @e_llishaa.
