Living next to party animals can be a nightmare for any neighbor. u/ThisSiteostrash recalled how he dealt with noisy neighbors a few years ago, while he and his family were living in an apartment complex. He had complained to the leasing office several times, but they did nothing. After an extremely bad weekend, the author and his family were going on a weekend trip. He planned the perfect revenge that lasted 48 hours. The post was shared on October 6, 2026, and it garnered 5,300 upvotes and 219 comments.

3 a.m. home raves

The author said his family lived at the complex from mid-2016 to mid-2021. According to the author, police had stopped responding to noise complaints and would only attend when a violent crime was involved. So, the author had to deal with noisy neighbors all the time. The "party animal" neighbors were fine initially. He never saw or met them, but he said, "Hearing voices and the occasional music and nightly extracurriculars was normal for this complex. But these people liked to party at random times throughout the week." Weekend parties were fine, but their 3 am Monday parties bothered him the most. They were not small gatherings either; they were as loud and big as New Year's parties. He complained to the leasing office several times, but they never did anything to make it stop.

Fighting music with music

Trying to take matters into his own hands, the author went around the building to locate the neighbor's apartment. However, "the complex was built in a way that you couldn't hear noise from another unit outside the door, but it was easily heard inside." On the other hand, most of the parties happened during the early hours, so no one could come to check. After a horrible weekend, the author hatched a plan. He and his family were going away for the weekend, so he found a 12-hour loop of Rebecca Black's "Friday," bought some speakers, and "downloaded it with audio software and put it into Windows Media Player to repeat once it was finished." He placed the speakers against the shared wall and said he set the volume so other residents would not hear it. "When we got back two days later with the music still playing... We didn't have any more issues with noise out of them." About a month later, he saw a moving truck, and the neighboring apartment went quiet again. He did not say whether his stunt caused them to leave.

Survival of the loudest

To no one's surprise, noise was one of the most common reasons neighbors argued. A Lombardo Homes survey, published on April 5, 2022, found 1,212 Americans said noise was the leading neighbor annoyance, with loud music topping the noise complaints. 14% of respondents said they had moved because of annoying neighbors, while 17% admitted deliberately doing something to get back at a neighbor.

'Add random delays'

People shared similar situations in the comment section. u/gmk_8919 commented their version of Black's "Friday," writing, "7 am waking up in the morning, gotta be fresh, gotta go downstairs to tell my neighbour to turn the f------ music down!" u/ol-gormsby added, "I would add a random delay before it repeats. Normal – restart immediately. Once an hour – waits 5 minutes. Once every 2 hours – waits 15 minutes."
